Wondering if we can see a picture of under the hood, and you say the transmission whine is only in 1st gear?

I've been using Mobile 1 5w-30 or 10-30 in my 2002 ever since my first oil change. I bought it new. Talked to a local speed shop, Goodspeed, and they say it's OK. Clark Turner does tuning for them.

Some people blame Mobile 1 for spun bearings. I'm happy with it, but I don't flog my car either.

Mobile one makes good oil if you are constant on your changes. Most people push it too far. I would never exceed 3k per change on mobile one.

You're the only person to ever say this .

Seriously though, buy Rotella t6. A lot better for your car.

I'm just saying. Every car I have owned has seen Mobil one... I just made sure never to push it past 3k.

I run t6 though haha.

I use Mobil 1 one for my Roadrunner, I love the oil. I just want to know the best oil for the subies, the viscosity for winter to.

I have a new one for the car, I just have to find time to do a full tune up, water pump, belts, pulleys, idlers, tensioner pulley, coolant flush, inspect brakes, suspension and drivetrain, plugs, wires, gaskets, while im at it Ill want to throw in a few performance parts lol so I have to save up a little before I do the work. plus I have my Roadrunner I'm throwing money at.

I thought the same thing when I saw it in pictures but it looks okay in person, but with the tail lights its not a top priority. In time I want to do a 04-05 swap.

I'm thinking about the mobile 1 5w30 or t6 rw40

Back and forth, between mobile 1 or t6.

What viscosity? t6 5w40 like "Smurftastic" said?

Changing your oil every 3k is a waste of money and oil. It made sense back in the late 1960's when I started driving. But oil is much better now. Dealers, garages and parts stores push frequent changes, not because they're necessary, but because they want to sell oil and filters.

Before blindly changing your oil every 3k, pull a sample and send it to Blackstone Labs for analysis.

They'll send you a sample kit for free. Analysis is $30. There's a reason that BMW has gone to 15k oil changes with synthetics.

I agree, 3K is a bit early to be changing oil, but 15K is extreme. 5K is the longest I've gone without an oil change. Pay a little now, avoid paying a lot later.

FYI: I run the 15W40 (summer) and 5w30 in Winter

but I'm sure you could use the 5w40 also.

Its been a while since I've posted. I have updates with good and bad news.

The transmission whine in first gear was the gear it self. First was pretty shredded but the rest of it was real nice.

The stereo was the remote it wouldn't work after the battery was dead unless I used the renote to turn it on and enter the code.. (Which I had to figure out)

The fog light was only the bulbs which had blue h3 12v 80w.

Back in the beginning of march I was getting off the interstate, put it into second gear and when trying to put it into first it wouldn't come out gear. At that point I needed to pull the transmission.

So the next day it was out. It had the stock clutch that was basically gone that was causing a chatter and had blueish purplish heat spots and the flywheel needed resurfaced. The throwout and pilot were still in good condition.

Day after that the tranny was torn down. Drain plug was full of metal shavings (I was then scared). Input and output shaft bearings good, all drive bearings good, Synchros were good, center diff was good, front diff was good, everything was good till I saw first gear. It was shredded.

Now here's my comeback.

I bought
-A rebuilt v7 JDM LSD 5speed with closer gears and a 4.44 final drive.

-4.44 LSD Read diff.

-Scotty's cocktail tranny and diff fluid.

-Stage 2, 3 puck track clutch.

-14lb flywheel.

-Stiffened poly bushings.. tranny mount, gearbox, rear diff, all shifter... Etc. (all driveline)

-Subframe lockdown kit.

-Steel braided clutch line.

-Subaru OEM master and slave.

-Subaru OEM 02 sensors.

-Short shifter.

-Shifter linkage.

-27mm rear sway bar.

-Rear sway bar heavy duty mounts.

-24mm front sway bar.

-24mm front sway bar locks.

-Front and rear endlinks.

-Stiffened polly exhaust hangers.

-Full coilovers.

-2500k 55w JDM yellow fog light bulbs.

-Head light evil eye eyebrows.

-Yakima roof rack with stickered wind fairing signed by ken block and snowboard attachments.

-Rally armor blackened mud flaps.

-Cabin air filter.

And lots of other small things and things I've forgotten about. But in total about $5000 in parts. There's a big car show August 3rd and I plan to be there. Hopefully it all goes together smoothly. Cant wait!!!

Glad your getting her up and in running order. Despite the new transmission I think you got a hell of a good deal. 6k for a really low mileage 03' isn't bad in my book.
