yeah I used M1 0W40, so far no explosions.

My little misfiring issue seems to have self corrected oddly enough. Maybe it was gas related...or possibly weather

give me a new car. I will accept a voucher for the 2015 wrx with option to upgrade to sti.

figured something along those lines, but it has been pretty regular weather. It has made it through two PNW rainy seasons (read Fall through Spring) with costco/safeway gas and not a single hiccup, but now this. I'll take it in and let the shop deal with it, maybe there is something more to the issue, maybe not.

Hey guys after installing a cobb sf intake (with box) and getting a custom e tune for it I'm starting to hear that bov-like sound that the intake creates multiple times during wot . Could it be the bpv valve finally giving in? The car still holds boost (19.X psi) no problem. It's just a sound as of now, I'd like to get some in put on what it could be before I tell my tuner.

I drive a stage 2 Wrx

are you just talking about the spool noise you get from an intake? It can't be blowing off and still holding full boost...well I guess it could but if its that loud you have a huge leak and the turbo is working way too hard to maintain 19psi

I don't have turbo Subaru, but do have a wildly built MR2. Like it, and my turbo diesel trucks the aftermarket intake yields lots more turbo noise especially under boost than before. I'd say if your holding boost pretty steady and the noise came after the intake I wouldn't worry about it at all. Unless your talking about waste gate flutter?

If you're consistently running 19+psi on a 2011 WRX then go ahead and buy a new bpv and either a new intercooler or the bulletproof kit. You'll save yourself time waiting for them to be shipped when the stock pieces blow up in the next couple weeks

Yeah currently saving up for a process west tmic and forged bpv. I think it might be wastegate flutter. Because if the bpv was leaking it wouldn't be holding boost. I'm going to see if i can catch it on video to show you guys what I mean.

The SF is loud, its normal to have a large increase in intake noise.

it probably is wastegate flutter, it sounds really crappy, especially if you get on it at a low rpm in a high gear. No one warns you about it either..lol.

It's not the spool noise that I'm talking about. It's the lift off throttle sound that the intake makes. That's what I hear during wot that confuses me. I think it may just be the iwg releasing excess boost. Maybe the intake increased the volume of the wastegate as well

wastegate flutter and the bpv don't sound the same at all. Maybe you should make a vid

this is what it should sound like

basically a loud sucking noise as the turbo spools and then a blow off sound when you let off..wastegate flutter would be in the background and really has nothing to do with the intake

I know on the deuce the bov is your swoosh of air bleeding off sound, and the waste gate can be heard 5 blocks away and scares the piss out of you, like a sick grizzly bear getting mauled. Your not describing the turbo spool, and the bov (bpv) shouldn't make noise holding steady boost, so seems like waste gate flutter to me, since it happened after intake change. Maybe swap intakes back and see what happens. Again, I'm going off of the car I have, but if you have a tuner and are not tuning yourself, I'd bring it to the attention of my tuner regardless. I'm not sure about your ECU situation, but on my end a change of intake charge would affect my tune, thus possibly creating different issues ( change in AFR to mention one). If your monitoring your AFR maybe keep an eye on it during boost to see if it has changed much since intake change. Just a thought-

wastegates are only loud if you have them vented to the atmosphere, so that isn't really relevant here, you can sort of make out the sound of the wastegate opening from the exhaust note but its subtle

Agreed, I havnt heard his. Mine is loud as hell, I understand most are not like mine. Just trying to throw out some bones and see if any make sense. To me, waste gate is the only thing that makes sense based on how I interpreted his posts. The dB level of it isn't in question. You also notice ( or I have) compressor surge more with more open intake, but he said it was at wot holding boost around 19.X, so surge should be discounted. I'd say all is prob ok, just hear things more with new intake. I'd still tell the tuner you added the intake incase he thinks you need any tuning changes. Like I said, no idea what your ECU situation is.

My brother's old celica alltrac had some compressor surge too. I wish toyota would put a 3sgte into a matix or corolla..lol, those things are much stronger than EJs

True... The alltrac's are awesome. I'd love to have one. This car actually now has a 5s block, 2.2 stroker. The 3s block held till almost 575 HP then let go. This build is much stronger. But for anything 500 HP or less the 3s is a terrific platform

The tuners the one who told me to get the intake and adjusted my tune towards it. I plan on letting him know as well just trying to get some ideas on what it could be. I honestly think its just the iwg making noise with the added intake. Again the sound "sounds" like a bov when venting to atmosphere. Except I'm not letting off throttle and it happens multiple times. Hasn't happend today when I tried to make a video...

Anyone have issues with shifting gears? I've heard of people changing their transmission fluid out and turning their crunchy gear boxes into very smooth shifting ones. I'm only at 26,000 miles and have occasionally experienced resistance into 3rd gear when shifting.
