Default '08-'09 WRX Auto Dimming mirror /w compass install

I know this is a super easy mod, but I figured since I was gonna do it, I might as wall write up a quick walk though as if the subaru directions were not easy enough!

Step 1: Buy the Mirror! This is a HAVE TO on all modern cars! Every vehicle should have one as the provide much better night visibility out of the rear.

Here is the box with the part #. I chose to go without the home-link as i would not use it:

Ok so here is your current situation with the old mirror:

EW GROSS!

To remove the old mirror all you have to do is grab the base of the mount and twist to the left. It spins 90 degrees and then you slide down to remove.

Ok so here is the mount on the window and the new spring clip they give you (identical to the old one).

BEFORE YOU REMOVE ANY PANELS IN YOUR CAR, OR UNPLUG/PLUGIN ANY CABLES PLEASE REMOVE THE NEGATIVE TERMINAL FROM YOUR BATTERY JUST TO BE SAFE! Thanks =)

Now to get to the cable, just stick a flat blade screw driver into the slots below, and give them a little pry till you hear a pop and the lens cover lifts.

Behind that there is 2 screws (phillips) that need to be removed, at which point the whole unit can come be gently pulled down:

Just plug in the provided cable into the white connector (shown below) till you hear a click then route the cable though the small area in the headline in the center-top of the windshield.

Once thats done all you need to do is attach the new mirror to the mount the same way you took the old one off (in reverse), snap the cable into the back and then use the handy dandy extendable mirror cable cover to hide the cable and voilą!

Read your manual for calibration instructions of the compass, doesnt take more than a few minutes.

Over all, I rate this install as easy-beginner and for those of you who who have the old school mirror i suggest you upgrade NOW!

Feel free to PM me or leave a comment if you need any help.

Thanks!

Will this guide work on a homelink mirror as well? I just picked up a 2013 WRX and wanted to install one.
