Default need help favor

hello

i need a favor from someone or/and i am willing to pay as well

well long story short, me and my buddy took our 08 and 10 sti to get them tuned to Adam in Wauconda, IL

unfortunately it turned out he is unable to hook up open source because previous owners get our cars tuned under COBB and now ecms are locked/married

called COBB and was told i need COBB access port to be hooked up to ecm, stock map to be uploaded and than ecm can be unmarried

owner of access port WILL NOT loose his tune

so i am asking for help, if anyone would be kind enough to meet me at adams shop in Wauconda or if its closer by my shop in Griffith, IN

thx in advance

you need the ORIGINAL owner's AP....you cant just hook up ANY AP...you need the same one that was used to flash your car

contact the PO of the vehicle or pay COBB to unlock

those are the 2 options

Poor Adam lol.

You "should" be able to hook up to it, but from prior knowledge, you need the specific serial as it's a "license" specific for that A/P so you'd have to send your ECU into Cobb to unbrick it.

Op I don't think you're clearly explaining your problem to Cobb and that's why you got that answer.

They meant if you find the PREVIOUS owner with accessport you can unmarry from your ecu.

If you can't, then you'll need to buy a new ecu for the car or have cobb unbrick it like mark said however that's the first I'm hearing of Cobb being able to do that. Either way its going to be a pain in the butt.

Say I bought a Cobb accessport that was used and not unmarried, that can be sent in for a fee to get unlocked again.

But you can't just have your car with a locked ecu and take a random accessport and flash a stock map to try and unlock it

^ Like he explained it, best way to see it.

Yeah, surprisingly Cobb does it and it's a fairly quick turn around. Had a battery die on us while flashing...guess what, it's brick and locked so I sent it in to them and got it back two days later with a stock map on it.

There is a local that does them as well, but I'm not sure if he does 16 bit only or if he'll do the 32bit ecu's as well....

You need to speak with Cobb directly, every vendor on hear deals with Cobb, and this issues goes past the normal workings of the A/P unit or tuning. This is a hardware thing.

ok
my last attempt in this thread, initial point of this thread was looking for someone to meet up not to fight with the whole world who is right

so

i called cobb in portland and austin

talked to 2 techs and they confirmed i am right

so lets say A is a good friend and B is my car

A saves his tune on ap
A unmarries ap from his ecm
A hookes up ap to B ecm and marries it together, than unmarries it right away and B ecm is unlocked and in stock map
A takes ap, hookes up to his ecm, marries it and uploads saved tune

im very grateful and A helped his subie buddy and made some $$$

if noone responds im sending both ecms to texas

thx

Contact Noah, One of the moderators. He has the ability to unbrick ECU's if I remember correctly.

If Cobb says that the procedure will work, and nothing wrong will happen with it either the ECU and the Cobb A/P...go for it.

wow, that's pretty cool....I wonder if Cobb putting the fear of God into us previously for doing that was to make some money for the bricking and un-marrying of units....hmm. I wonder if this has always been applicable but as a "use at your own risk" type of situation.

Heres a suggestion..
Buy some high octane fuel
Soak the A(sscrack) Port with it
Set it on fire... get some marshmallows
Enjoy!
Open source ftw!

Careful with the octane. I believe anything over 107 is leaded
