I did mke723.

Made a few changes to the car before hand. Changed the intercooler, fuel set up, brake pads (Pagid RS29) and turbo (Billet 30).

Car was running fantastic and doing pretty well until a sudden steam bath called a end to the day. Turns out it was a split silicone hose that had been rubbing and eventually split. Cheap fix so plenty to look forward to over the winter.

Few pics and vids

Drivers side cam cover buddy at the top.

Guessing as the system pressurized and got hot it weakened the cover and then the cam pulley tore through the cover and ate my hose

Quick easy fix thankfully.

that unfortunate. But its easy fix. now u have all winter to check and re-check all the little things, like hose clearances. thanks for the vids and update. Your car sounds like a beast. have you a chance to check out a set of sub frames from www.TSSFAB.us, lighter, stronger, custom options. give them a look. a few places sell them in their catalog , but for almost twice as much as you can get them direct.

Not yet mke

Handling set up will be looked at over the winter. A friend does have what you mentioned on his car so I'm kinda waiting from some feedback from him once his car is up and running.

Hey bud, absolutely amazing build. Great job building such a supreme car and not half a**ing anything. One question though, how long did the planing/research phase of this car take. Did you follow all of your plans or have to sacrifice any because of financial or difficult install obstacles? Good luck in your future events.

Thanks.

Research just involved what I wanted and what others that were at a similar spec were using. Things changed along the way and continue to change to this date. I've just swapped coilovers to KW v3 Clubsports. Changed turbo from a billet 35 to a 30. They are constantly a work in progress and motorsport never stands still for long so there are always improvements coming out. They are hard work and you sacrifice a lot but once in such a car it's like an ex girlfriend. You forget all the bad and remember only the good

There adrenaline rush is something else.

You live once, might as well follow the dream

Thanks dude. Glad you like it.

Phew, updates......where to begin..

In Dec 2012 I was getting ready for a winter/off season of trackdays and tuition to improve my driving skills and decided to have the car mapped for a bit more power.

Sadly my engine let go at 570bhp on the dyno even though others running the same spec are getting good use out of theirs at 700+. Turns out none of the tolerances etc were checked during the build Blew the HG but in such a way it destroyed the block, heads, pistons, 1 rod and the rad. Expensive fix

Having missed all the tuition and trackdays I decided to put a standard JDM v9 bottom end in with STi 8 UK heads just to get back out there and have some fun. Ran it at safe power 360bhp to get some reliability but my bad luck struck again with piston ringland failure after just 2 events.

It's just had a brand new 2.1 built and had a running in map put on it yesterday. 1 bar of boost limited to 5500 revs. Will put some miles on it via the dyno over the next couple of weeks and then drop the oil and have a proper map done. Aiming at 550 to keep things on the safe side.

Fingers crossed this one lasts a little longer than the previous 2. Eventually it will have another 2.35 in it and get 700+ again but cash flow dictates when that will happen.

No luck.

Why you want 700? I know big power is a good thing, but honestly, it should be very hard to keep it on track.

I drive 300hp GD WRX and it's a lot! Skidding in 2gear in turns (city). waiting for a proper winter (snow) to get along with the 4wd drive. This is pretty new stuff for me.

But I really enjoy your project, and if Men needs 700hp it means he needs it. go for it.

Thanks guys.

Had the car mapped last week and made 500.9/465 @ 1.75 bar. Happy enough with that as it's not overly stretching the new engine and plenty quick enough in a light car.

Took her out for the first event yesterday and done pretty well. Came 3rd in my class so very happy with that.

Few pics and a vid of my 2nd quickest lap. Excuse me talking to my car at the end I'm slightly nuts

congrats with the podium!
nice non-grippy start, shows the power and fast turbo spool, really nice.
couple questions - what tires and gearbox you're running in such events?

Thanks

In that video I was using Dunlop CR311 x10's. Tyre pressures cold were 27 front 25 rear.

Gearbox is a 2003 JDM 6 speed DCCD using 40% diff lock on that video

Do you train your skill besides running your impreza? I mean go-carting, PC car racing simulation games etc...

Haha. No. I've been seriously stupid tbh.

I had never driven a car more than 140bhp and never driven on track before.

For some strange reason I thought it would be fun to build a race car. It scared the s**t out of me tbh. With all the issues I've had with that car I've still probably only had an hour actually driving it, and that's been over the last 18 months.

Driving tuition is definately on the to do list and I have a training day booked for the 20th Nov. hopefully I'll get a few tuition sessions in over the winter and actually learn how to drive it properly.

The car is definitely a lot more capable than I am at the moment.

If I hear well you're doing heel & toe for downshifts - that's good.
Braking points looks quite good as well.
Just the racing lines... But if you got only 1 hour of racing - you're doing very well.

And training racing lines - go carts are the best (price/performance).
of course PC racing simulators with a proper wheel are good as well (and way cheaper than go-carting).
Could recommend Live For Speed (not Need for speed, but Live...) and Richard Burns Rally.

Keep us posted, very nice build, racing and the story overall!

BR,
Mantas
