Default Intercooler

Anybody know where to get a (TMIC) intercooler for a version 2 sti? Its the 'Slanty' intercooler. I'm looking for either a "in good shape" stock one or an aftermarket.

The silver sti one is going to be hard to come by in north america.

You could probably get a black wrx slanty from ebay, one of the jdm importers or the classifieds here.

If you really need the silver sti one, try yahoo auctions japan, you'll need to use a bidding service like rinkya. You might find one on ebay UK too.

If you don't care about originality, the USDM forester turbo on fits in the space available with a little work.

Is the silver slanty really that rare?

If you didn't live in Canada I could send you one from JDM land, there's a few laying around at upgarage.

No they are not, the hard pipe on the STi is a vast improvement:

And the plastic pipe on the black one will be the first thing to cause major boost least when it breaks, nevermind how restrictive it is. Ask me how I know. You can fit a 02 and up wrx intercooler on it, but it takes a lot of cutting, including the firewall, throttle body, intercooler outlet, and trimming he back edge of the intercooler itself. I'd go with one of the thin forester intercoolers as they are much easier to find.

Also a lot of people go the FMIC by CX racing, but I recommend against it. It's really meant for a huge turbo, and created serious lag on my TD05-16g. I ended up removing it, as it's so huge it was creating radiator cooling issues as well. Pipes are too big, intercooler is too big, it's just not an efficient design. I took mine off and went with trying to insulate the TMIC as best I can.
