Default Newb turbo question - URGENT!

Hey guys I've been hearing this noise come from what i think is the turbo
happens in high gear when im at low rpm, low mph. when i step on it its like before the turbo is spooling or as it just starts to spool
hard noise to explain but after it gets to around 2-3k rpms it starts to spool and push air as normal.
not sure if thats normal cause the turbo is just spiining without any air coming through or what. PLEASE HELP!!

I have 3 video clipss but cannot figure out how to add them in here

You should have a warranty, take it to the dealer.

try shifting so you don't have that situation?

A man goes into a doctor's office and says, "Doctor, every bone in my body is broken! It hurts whenever I touch it with my finger." The doctor looks over and says, "Well don't do that."

I think I combined two jokes and didn't get either of the punchlines correct. But if you're only hearing the noise while doing something you shouldn't be doing (low RPM high gear)... Don't do it.

Or warranty.

No warranty. and I usually don't im just wondering why its like that. is that normal for a turbo if youre in a high gear at real low rpms?

I think the punchline is "You have a broken finger" or something to that affect lol.

As far as the noise, it doesn't sound too bad. If it is a concern though, just take it in.

Is exactly what I told him in his other thread he started about the exact same problem. I nailed the punchline though :-)

"My car sounds weird in high gears at low rpm when I stand on it..."

Then dont go WOT in high gears at low rpm. Duh.

Op-take your car to a mechanic and use your warranty. You really trust strangers to diagnose your "sound" over the web?

Yeesh, good luck with that, maybe you can just throw $$$ at the noise until it goes away. Start with the harmonic dampener, sounds like it might be loose...

I have an 02 wrx w/2.5 and I can get to make all kinds of noises and rattles and vibrations driving "wrong". Best advice would be to check plugs, keep oil and coolant topped off, and if you have the money gather some data logs via cobb AP or opensource w/ Tactrix cable; if all check out good don't worry about it.

It's normal, you are bogging the motor. You are too low in rpm for that high gear to be thinking about going WOT...don't do that. Downshift if you want to WOT on the freeway at that speed.

You're doing something you shouldn't, and the car is letting you know.

You shouldn't even be cruising in high gear below 2k RPM, much less going WOT...stop abusing your car and it'll stop making scary noises.

I can hear what reminds me of waste gate flutter. Is it the slight hissy, fluttery noise you're talking about? You haven't mentioned if you have any performance mods or a tune added to your engine so I can't comment on whether that would intensify the noise you're hearing.

If you shift down a gear and step on the gas, you don't hear that same noise at all? Are you sure? Maybe it just happens more quickly since the turbo is creating boost sooner?

+1 for bogging the motor, your engine HATES this. Downshift and dont go WOT in 5th gear.

Well, easy fix then. I find that my engine is happiest when it's at least at 2500 rpm in the lower gears and 3000 rpm in 4 5 and 6. Your gearing is taller than mine so I would say try to keep your engine at those rpm at a minimum. Cruising at 3000 rpm isn't going to hurt anything and is where the engine is ready to quickly build boost.

A little higher than I like to keep it on my '12 WRX, but not much.

For accelerating I keep it at at least 3k, for cruising I'm typically between 2-3k. If traffic accelerates and I reach 3k in whatever gear I'm in, I upshift. If traffic slows down and I reach 2k, I downshift. 2-3k is the window that I stay in while cruising. If I need to accelerate more than about 20% throttle, I just make sure I'm above 3k.

Add about 1k to those numbers for my STi, but that's mostly because of the cams.

I would say the general concensus is your bogging your motor and should stop. Why this was even a question that got asked I have no idea. This should be common sense to not do this.
Also you shouldnt be driving like a granny to break your car in, yes you should try to shift most of the time at about 4kfor the first 1000 miles, but you want to be in boost a lot, really get the turbo working and I dont mean slamming threw the gears and going WOT. You can tell when you hit boost and it doesnt have to be WOT, its just in certain rpms in certain gears you want to be in and out of boost a lot and every once in a whole yes go WOT to open the car up. But you def. want to be fluctuating in and out of boost often during break in so your rings seat correctly.
