LOL
Honda is promoting incest, where Subaru is promoting real cars made for real people.

Ya, my 4 y/o wanted to help me wash mine, and he opened the door....... I had flash backs to the commercial of the kids soaking that Subaru on the other commercial. I was a little more "excited" than the guy on that one. Lol

Probably just pump variation. The rest of the data is pretty consistent and that seems way out there.

I did a favor for my cousin in Myrtle Beach. I drove 55 mph from home to Wilmington to Myrtle Beach to Wilmington to Raleigh to home. That was a one time thing. I don't think I could do it again, not like Myrt1987 who did it consistently for like 8,000 miles.

I've done 40 on a whole tank, and that's as calculated at the pump, not taking into consideration my 2-3% odometer error, so really ~42.

I'm headed out on vacation for 2 weeks, and several legs will be full tanks of E0 on the highway. I fully expect to get at LEAST 40 mpg. My goal for the Omaha to Denver leg is at least 44, so long as I don't get a headwind of more than 10-15 mph.

EDIT: My fuelly, https://www.fuelly.com/driver/xafen/impreza, I'll try to update as I go over the next couple weeks. It'll be almost 3k miles.

Yep! I'll be doing it consistently for ~3k miles (60-65 mph that is). I'm in no hurry, love listening to music in my car, and have 2 weeks to drive/camp around the desert southwest!

Good luck. I tried and failed and didn't try again, lol. When I filled up after that 40 mpg tank, I went to work for one day and topped it off the following day to return back to Myrtle Beach for an extended Memorial Day weekend. I got mid 30's with that tank and just said the hell with it. It's all good.

We're heading to Wrightsville Beach this weekend. I'm curious to see if a tank of 89 makes as much difference on the highway (70-75mph) as it did for my commute. Pretty sure I won't be hitting 40mpg though!

I really want to try E0 87 octane gas in my car. Have only seen it available in 89 octane or 100+ ($$$$$). Will find out how this last tank was later this evening.

Aloha! puregas.org shows 87E0 at two 76 stations. One on 2105 S King St pass Ala Moana Center and the other is pass Hawaii Kai.

Wish I could go back there. I was stationed at Hickam from '95 to '98.

www.pure-gas.org =) Always love telling people about it. Wish they had more about what a sham ethanol is.

Desert algae bio-diesel all the way! Switchgrass ethanol is ok I suppose, but oh how I hate the vicious cycle that is corn ethanol.

I wish we even had the option of E0 87 octane up here. Our brilliant government decided to mandate a minimum net ethanol usage in fuel. This means that all 87 octane (being the most commonly chosen fuel at the gas station) is likely to have 10% ethanol to ensure close adherence (or at least compliance) to the law.

...of course, this is the very same government that is muzzling its scientists, turning a deaf ear and blind eye to the things that they're saying and writing when it comes to the scientific evidence they've found.

Thanks for the info. Cool site. I used to live a block away from that 76 gas station on S. King St. May help explain why their posted prices are quite a bit higher. That's also the same one that sells 100+ octane.

Filled up last night and the hand calculated average (not accounting for odometer difference) came out to 33 MPG. Dash display indicating about 1.5 MPG higher. Not too shabby.

That sounds like a great trip. I am enamored with the SW myself. I travel a lot on the motorcycle. Early on, I would leave my stuff sacks and things like that in the vestibule of the tent. When we stopped at Palo Duro Canyon, (which I would recommend BTW), the ranger there said "don't leave anything outside your tent". When I asked why, I was told there are snakes, scorpions, and tarantulas. Ok I said. Regardless of where I have camped ever since, I leave NOTHING outside my tent that something could crawl into or under. Also, if you have the need for a nature call in the middle of the night, shine your light around and make sure something isn't going to drop into the tent when you unzip it. Ok, enough doom and gloom. The Southwest has some very striking contrasts. When the sun hits the canyon walls and light up the reds and oranges it is amazing! Brice Canyon in Utah needs to be on your bucket list as well. Chisos Basin in the center of Big Bend is a nice place to camp. The nearby lodge has a good breakfast. When the sun goes down, the stars are so numerous it is difficult to locate the big dipper! Wow, too many places to list. Have a great time.

28.9 mpg with 89 octane. Filled up one more time with 89 to see if the trend can continue.

My wife has a '07 Honda CR-V with a 2.4L at 9.5:1 compression. Just for fun I put 89 in it about a week ago after the good results I got in my car. The tank is half way down, she's been doing nothing but the normal commute and the gauge reads 23.something MPG. She normally gets like 19 or 20! (She's a total lead foot and only a 5 mile commute to work)

Maybe premium 93 will yield something in our 10.5:1 2.0L? I'll test that next after this third tank of 89.

this is great info. i await your results, but that looks promising and maybe it's something i can try.

i had never thought going to 89 with E10 would improve things over 87E10.

your driving looks similar to mine (26-28mph average on a typical tank which i usually guess-stimate at around 75-80% city in my suburbia type of driving -- hard to pinpoint though as i know some of my stretches of freeway are 1-3 miles which basically doesn't mean highway since so much fuel is spent accelerating up to 65-70 and then i'm back to the brakes and city driving shortly after)

anyway, i think i may have to try this out. it seems you are getting 6% increase in mileage?

that's not bad if it's only 10-15cents more per gallon.

If the ECU is pulling timing on 87, I wonder if water injection might help.

Going from ~26.5mpg to ~29mpg is ~8%.
Gas cost from $3.35 to $3.54 is ~5.4%.
Better than breakeven by a hair

Not a lot, but about the same % interest you'll see from most banks ;-)
