I just finished a road trip with a family of four and covered 2600 miles in out 2009 Forester X Premium. We have a 5 speed model, bought a roof box and had no issues. The extra 10 cubic feet helps when we do this trip in the winter and keeps the car from being too cluttered. I often wish it was a turbo, but both my wife and I would get speeding tickets.

We're looking at adding a Tribeca, but I'd try a new Outback with the 3.6 too. We had a 2005 Outback with a manual, but we like the Forester more.

The Forester reached it's high point in 2004-2008. It had performance of the WRX in many respects but had room to haul 4-5 people and a LOT of equipment inside. The next model in 09 started heading in the wrong direction in my opinion. Now the latest model is more like a Tribeca used to be. This Forester is still a great car, but it's not longer the ultimate sleeper/grocery wagon that can keep up with rally cars.

The way Subarus keep growing in size, maybe the next WRX will grow enough to be what the 04-08 Forester once was.

That's a pretty dang good option. It would sure be nice to keep hauling things like this. But I might end up with a WRX wagon and a rack on top like you're saying.

mercedes e-class 4-matic. My dad had one years ago and it was incredible. We slid nearly 65 degrees on an icy road and the computer corrected it.

The 2013 Wrangler 4 door packs a 285hp, 260#ft engine described as "the most efficient engine in the world". Sure, it's known for climbing over rocks and getting through snow but when that turbo'd 240SX is trying to race the turbo Civic next to him and you're 3rd at the light next to them, you can blow their doors off.

(note, said street light is posted in a closed course and said cars are driven by professional drivers. Street racing is not condoned by the management, the employees or the moderators of nasioc)
