Default Low Profile Winter Tires

Hello

I planning on buying some low profile winter tires (225/40/18). Any people with previous experience with them?

I understand about going to a narrower size for grip in the snow but I spend about 80% of the winter on clear road. Do the low profile tire offset that much grip in the snow that I would even need to consider going to a narrower width?

I had 225/45R17 and they did fine (Continental TS810).
However 18" winter tires are quite expensive.

There will be greater chance of smacking a wheel if you're on bumpy/pot hole roads. And you will be bent over, otherwise not a crazy huge difference, a bit less contour/squishy.
