Here's the standard rally cross descriptor:
RallyCross is a timed competition pitting a driver and his/her vehicle against a defined course. The course is delineated by cones on a non-paved surface such as dirt, gravel, or snow. Participants attempt to traverse the course as fast as possible. The entry fee and equipment requirements are considerably less than most other forms of motorsports.

For some, RallyCross is a fun way to practice low traction driving skills. Others just enjoy the fun and camaraderie of the day with other auto enthusiasts. And to others, it’s their first step towards performance rallying.

RallyCross is a cost effective way to measure interest and skill at "doing it in the dirt" as well as a great way to practice your car control skills. Because the course is laid out with cones, a driver can make a mistake and not suffer damage to their vehicle that they would if they hit a rock or tree practicing on back roads.

You can drive your own car! Most contestants race the same vehicle they drive to work each day. The car must be mechanically sound and have working seat belts and a hard top. All loose items from the interior and trunk need to be removed for safety reasons. Entrants must have a Snell 2000 or newer helmet. There are different classes of vehicles, based on the vehicle and improvements, if any. The classes are Stock, Prepared and Modified, in front, rear and 4 wheel drive groups.

Each run around the course is timed and recorded. At the end of the event, all of a driver's times are added together. The total times of each driver within the class are compared. The driver in each class with the lowest cumulative time wins. Utah Region usually runs one event per month. There is even an annual series, spanning all seasons, that crowns champions at the end of the year.

Check the URG calendar for upcoming events and come on out! If you’re unsure if you want to actually race, there are opportunities to become involved by working corners, flagging, or doing timing and scoring. You can even ride along with another participant! There are plenty of regular rallycrossers at each event that will talk with you about how the events are run, how to prepare a car, how to drive fast through a corner, and more. Come to an event and find out what sweeper, slalom, e-brake turn and left foot braking are all about.

With this first Moab event, you can pair it with checking out the rally cross, participating on one day and checking out Moab the rest of the weekend!

Moab attracts over 2 million tourists every year, most visiting Arches and Canyonlands National Parks. The natural and beautiful landscape also attracts a high concentration of outdoor recreation opportunities in stunning natural settings; activities included (but not limited to) the following:
4x4 — Multi-day camping trips in Canyonlands National Park on the White Rim Road, and Extreme 4x4 at Sand Flats Recreation Area (home of the famous Slickrock Bike Trail), among seemingly limitless other areas
Whitewater rafting and kayaking on the Colorado River. The area's most famous sections of the Colorado are West Water Canyon which is upstream from Moab and Cataract Canyon in Canyonlands National Park which is downstream.
Canoe trips on the Green River
Mountain biking — Hundreds of miles of trails easily accessible trails
Road biking — The annual Skinny Tire Festival is held in Moab, including a century ride
Rock climbing — A true international destination for climbers
BASE jumping — Legal in many areas near Moab
Hiking and backpacking — Canyonlands National Park, Arches National Park, and thousands of square miles of BLM and national forest lands surround Moab.
Slacklining/highlining — World record for long highlines was performed here (a new slackline park has just been installed)

I'm not sure what you're asking.

In other forums I included several links (but I guess I got a little lazy and didn't include them all here) for convenience in info gathering and planning for anyone in the area interested in a rally cross AND/or a vacation trip to southeast Utah's canyonlands.

I participated in my first rally cross in 2009 and have been trying to get a location and settle an event down in Moab for 3 years. Rally crosses are a LOT of fun, but driving 5 hours for UT events has gotten less convenient for me.
At any rate we've finally gotten all the right folks together and it looks like the Utah Rally Group has been able to secure a location and date for the first rally cross in SE Utah (Which is super convenient for me as I live in Moab and a lot of other rally enthusiasts in the southwestern US, particularly the 4-corners area should be able to attend!

Ciao.

Uum, it seems like you are inside my brain with your comment
I do envision a longer term plan with "Rally" and "Moab" and "stage" in the same phrase!

The rally cross site is on a dry lake bed just east of Hwy 191 (north of Moab) NW of Arches NP.
Google earth these coordinates:
LAT: 3852'27.92"N
LON: 10948'5.39"W

This event is a bit of a feeler, but when successful it could turn into a biannual event and possibly become a western states or nationals event.
check with the Utah Rally Group for details and registration (links above).

Around that I'm [albeit slowly] working on getting ducks in a row to pitch a stage rally idea to the county and BLM. Yes, there are PLENTY of far-off, less traveled county and BLM roads which would be IDEAL for stages!!

(Per URG)
Here are the details everyone. We are also playing with the idea of a night rallycross on Saturday. :-)

The URG (Utah Rally Group) is proud to present the Utah Region RallyCross held north of the Moab area. Registration and tech will be open from 8:00am to 9:30am, the driver's meeting will be at 9:45am, with first car running at 10:00am. The event usually goes until mid to late afternoon, with each competitor being given at least six runs.
All competitors must have and show a current valid drivers license(their own), and all cars (fixed-roof production based, including convertibles with a factory hardtop att...ached and targa or t-top types with factory panel(s) in place) must be able to pass technical inspection. Helmets are required and must meet Snell 2000(SA2000, M2000, or K2000) or newer labeled helmets are approved for use. For those without a proper helmet, loaner helmets are available.

Entry fees are as follows:
1 day non SCCA member - 60
2 day non SCCA member - 90

1 day SCCA member - 40
2 day SCCA member - 70

Join the SCCA Today! http://www.scca.com/joinnow.aspx

Directions to the area:
From I-70 head south toward Moab on 191 approximately 8 miles and take a left onto Valley City Rd.
3852'27.20" N
10947'57.92" W

Lodging:
Camping will be available on site for $10 a car
The only services on site will be a port-a-potty
Green River has hotels available at slightly lower rates than Moab. Both are about 25 miles away.

Here are a couple Google Earth images of the location.
Directions from I-70 @ hwy 191:
Head south to Valley City Rd (first major left from hwy 191). It's about 8 miles south of I-70 and you'll cross over the RR tracks when you get on Valley City Rd. This is a compacted improved county road (there is some potash mining exploration going on out there so it's a good road for the mining traffic). From there you take the first veer to the right onto a two-track and follow that to the site. URG may stage at this turn off of Valley City Road.

specifics from the Valley City Hwy 191 intersection.
