Took me a matter of two years of finally fixing my dreaded hatchback creak but it's gone. Whenever I pulled into my driveway or made any type of turn and the pavement was uneven or at an incline, something would shift in the back and start creaking (took a few rides sitting in the trunk area and isolated the creaking to the hatch itself). It all started when I was lightly rear-ended at a red light a few years ago and since that time I was thinking something was tweaked a bit. So I started playing with the two rubber bumpers on the hatch itself which allows you some adjustability of how tight it sits against the body and then started messing with the metal striker plate where the hatch locks onto. There's a few mm of adjustment there as well, but I've never found the perfect combination of getting the bumpers just right or where the striker plate sat to stop creaking. Some days it was gone, others it was non-stop.

Then it finally hit me 2 weeks ago to liberally spray the locking mechanism inside on the hatch itself with some teflon silicone spray lube I had in the garage. Inserted the small straw into the can and went to town spraying it all inside to the point where I needed a towel to clean up the dripping mess. Left it overnight to dry and clean up the remaining bits but since then it's been dead silent now in the back.

Who knew some silicone spray could have stopped be from going every time I heard the creaking these past two years. I'm quite OCD and anal with anything that's creaking or rattling on this car.

Default Seatbelt Top Cover Rattle

Has anyone attempted to fix the rattle inside the seatbelt covers? I have a consistent rattle coming from driver's side and passengers and I'm about ready to rip it all to shreds! It's loud and I cannot turn the music high enough. HELP!!

Not that I've seen. My '11 driver seatbelt seems to have a subtle rattle going over bumps, and the door frame has a subtle creak at the same time. I'd love a fix but I'm not even sure where the noise is coming from.

I took mine apart when I was dying the upper post black. Not much in there that can rattle. Have you tried raising the slider a notch? I also put some silicone and felt in mine for a tight fit. If you're talking about the slider though, then you can just pop it off and check what can go loose then either line it with felt or silicone...

Only a few months after buying my brand new 2012 WRX base hatch, it started making a squeaking sound from the right-rear corner that I could only hear when driving around in a parking lot or pulling into or out of my driveway. I took it to the dealership and they told me it's the brake caliper moving and it's totally normal. I didn't push it but that is complete BS. Why only that one corner if it's normal. Still have only 9000 miles on it so going to push it again next time I take it in and if they won't fix it will take it to a closer dealership.

I didn't have an accident like you did, but it's making me want to try what you did to see if I can resolve it myself.

Are you sure it's inside the seatbelt cover? I have a rattle that sounds like it is beneath the cover but it's actually the driver's side window that rattles. Driving me crazy too! I've tried sticking things between the window and the weatherstripping to no avail. Admittedly I haven't worked on it very hard yet.

Oh yea!! Didn't start till 30000 miles. I just stuffed a towel in there to limit free space. Can't figure it out. Seems to rattle at the base of the window.

ok..random noise..not exactly a rattle, but a high pitched hum. if this is the wrong thread, my apologies. The noise only happens when im exactly at 60 on the speedometer. If im 1 mph under or over it goes away. seems to happen right front of the car, over where my intake is. seems to have gotten worse since i got a short ram put in. anyone ever heard of this issue before? drives me nuts!

I get this too, but it's more of a whirring turbine sound but as soon as I hit 62 or more the exhaust covers the noise...

Honestly, if you have an aftermarket dp you're probably hearing the turbo, the heatshield reflecting some sort of noise, or resonance...The short ram can also make the sound more prominent

Hehehe I like this thread. I'm not on cars forum very often anymore. Should find some solutions here. I also have the hatch creaking when the car "pry" when I corner my driveway at slow speed. I never had a rear end accident but I noticed the hatch door is crack is wide and the window is like far from the car...like if the top bolts are too far back.. Also the truck door is like more on one side... But my main concern is more about the dash. Every single pastic parts are making tick or creaking against each other when it's not hot. I have put a full roll of insulating tape at every joint and under every plastic part that I could unscrew or remove and it's still cracking. It only goes away if you remove every dash trim and cluster cover but you loose the air conditionning haha. F U. All the galippers are also knoking. It pisses my off than my girlfirend's Yaris doesn't make a single noise anywhere.

If you use a Teflon lubricant like from a bike shop on your hatch seals and adjust the bumpers inside it should remedy hatch squeal.

has anyone figured a way to stop the plastic trims(the 4 black plastic trim/covers) around the hatch from rattling? i could put felt tape on the hatch door itself but then it would look kind of ugly/goofy with it sticking out past the trim.

I've added some heavy duty rubber electrical tape where the top hatch trim hits the hatch frame, and that has eased some of the rattling back there but that slight knocking-ish sound is driving me crazy.

Anyone got a solution for 1st gear taking off there seems to be a random noise sounding like creeking coming from the engine bay or drivers door. I open the window and can't repeat the noise. Keep the window up and I can repeat it

I've got that one as well. Does yours stop when you press outward on the door skin? I'm thinking it may be the seam between the panel and the door itself, so I may try putting some foam along there. If you figure out where it's coming from let me know, it's the only rattle that really annoys me.

I had my short block replaced last month and now I notice that when Im going highway speeds...i hear this crackling/popping sound coming from the steering wheel area. It comes and goes. I also have the DAMP flat steering wheel but that's been on the car since I bought it.

All right, here's one for everyone: It sounds like something is rolling inside the center console and/or shifter area. When I removed the shifter surround to try and find it, it disappeared. When I reinstalled, it came back. The crazy part is that shaking the shifter surround show's there's obviously nothing in there, so where can it be coming from?

It honestly sounds like a marble is loose somewhere in there and rolling around on turns.

New rattle time! For the longest I've been trying to narrow down a rattle/creaking noise coming directly in front of me. I swore it was behind the gauge cluster or surrounding area. Drove with it pulled out, sound was still there. It's not the VIN plate. It's not the long horizontal trim piece running near the glass with the sun sensor that I also popped off. Not the A pillars. Those are gone too.

It's a more a of stressing/creaking noise of plastic that is emitting from below the VIN plate area, right in the corner where the vent sits. And it's not the vent, had that taken out as well. And it's not the surrounding tubing below the dash that connect to the vent. Held those together and sound was still there.

And it will be here until next spring as it comes and go whenever the temps drop below 50F. No matter of where I'm driving, even it creaks on the smoothest of highways. And not load dependent either, I can be cruising at 60, coasting to a stop, or going WOT. It will creak. Randomly.

I'm going to go crazy until spring. That is until I find and track my other new rattle. The C-pillar passenger side trim cover with the seat belts, that is straight up buzzing now at times. I will be popping it off this weekend to see what's up.

But I need urgent help with the front creak, I am running out of ideas of what to do or what to tighten down. It's also not a lose wiring harness as I've checked those below last night.

have you heard that creak noise with the driver's window down? I hear something similar to what you describe but mostly when I'm backing out of the garage or going into the alley (slow turns and some clutch movement)
I thought it was something with the coilovers but when i switched back to strut/spring combo I still hear it.
