Default DCCD with 08+ 5sp trans?

So i know some old 5spd DCCD tail housings/diffs exist. yes i know they are rare, but that is irrelevant to my question.

can you use this tail housing on the 08+ WRX transmission? will it bolt up? is the bolt pattern the same? i see people always referring to it by "phase 1" and "phase 2", but how does that compare to the 08+ trans? is the 08+ trans a "phase 2"?

while we are at it. what are the exact reasons that a 5speed DCCD diff will not work in the non-DCCD tail housing? is it just the matter of no passthrough hole for the wiring? or will it physically not fit?

please no "your wasting your time" posts. this is informational/hypothetical at this point.

I talked to Andrew about it myself, but it was for different year trannys... He had a few ideas and some spare parts depending on year.

What was the conclusion? Possible? Your reply is pretty vague. What year tranny were/are you trying to add DCCD to?

To the best of my knowledge, the bolt pattern and basic design is the same.

Both and neither. Both in the way that the phase I DCCD will not fit in a phase II housing and there is nowhere to pass the harness outside. Neither when looking at a later DCCD unit, but I havent come across one to compare the housings. (ie: did they keep the old style housing and diff unit, or use a different setup with the phase II style unit and housing).

I'd look at scoobynet.uk for first hand information. They are the folks who have had 5sp DCCD's for awhile......

Thanks for the info guys. This seems like it IS possible.

My idea is basically this. 08+ WRX trans, with PAR/PPG gears + UK spec DCCD + DCCD controller. Should be a lot lighter than a 6sp and Bolt up, won't have to change everything else needed for a 6sp swap (clutch/flywheel/axles/driveshaft/shifter/wiring/etc)

Pretty much what I did, except I went with an 05 LGT mainshaft and 03WRX 3/4/5's in a Impreza brighton case with the UK spec DCCD. Hybrid if ever there was one!

Have you upgraded your front and rear diffs yet? I would be doing those before the center diff.

Would be doing both (and likely the rear) at the same time.

Why open it up twice?

Of course...... Helical front and 2 way plated rear, which will be a 1 and 1.5 way here in the next couple months.

The DCCD replaced the Cusco Tarmac center diff I didn't like too much.
