Default EQ - Stage 2 06 STI before/after Tomei EL Headers/UP

I had the opportunity for a good back to back test with the Tomei EL Headers/UP. This is an 06 STI with basic stage 2 mods and is even catted. The results are what I generally expect, but its nice to see it on the same car with nothing else changed. What did surprise me was absolutely no loss in spool .

Event: Custom Tune/Dyno
Location: Equilibrium Tuning - Fairfield, CA
Ambient Temp: 70 degrees Fahrenheit
Elevation: ~100ft above sea level

Car: 2006 Subaru STI
Tuner: ED @ Equilibrium Tuning
Peak HP at RPM: 295whp @ 5450RPM
Peak Torque at RPM: 341ft-lbs @ 3750RPM
Target Boost: 19.5psi peak

Engine/Power Modifications:

Cobb Catted TBE
Cobb SRI with box

Stock 04-07 STI - 210-220whp
Stock 08-11 STI - 195-205whp

300-310whp - 112-113mph traps

that is a really nice gain for the stock turbo..Id figure these headers only showed much gain when you were on a larger turbo that increased the flow demanded.

I would like to see a side by side with E85 and Stage 2 mods with the Tomei EL headers

I'd love to see that too but I haven't had the chance to do this comparison yet.

I'd imagine we would see similar gains on 93 octane. Have you seen otherwise?

I know this is an old thread, but I'm thinking about getting the Tomei EL headers and was just wondering if you have the boost curves? I've been reading about how it'll cause a slightly slower spool.

Yeah, I saw that the first time, but that was hard to believe, so I had to ask if he had the boost curve to prove it Even after looking at it a few times now, I still find that pretty amazing.

I recently removed my ported gs manifolds and installed a invidia race elh on my 07 sti "1.5xtr 10cm-e85, and lost 250rpm of spool and the car actually feels slower but picked up power on the dyno from about 5k on up.
No matter what we tried it wasnt getting it back at the bottom end..

EQ's dyno plot shows gains over the whole powerband, hopefully I can see that on my car!

On 91 octane I am able to add some timing to cars. Lowering the EGTs with the EL header really helps utilizing 91 octane. Cars using a quality EL header on 93 do pick up a little power, but more so massive amounts of torque. I typically keep ignition the same on 93 (header / no header) or even take a half degree out in some cases to add some safety.

not to thread jack but that graph looks similar to my stage 2 when i added a frontmount and ewg. tapers to around the same but midrange meat is better.

im about to add equal header and see the further gains. hoping to get back the 300rpm spool i lost from the frontmount piping.

Quick update, I've installed the EL header on my 11 STI and even before adjusting the tune, I can confirm that there was no loss of spool and the car felt a bit torquier in the lower mid range. Now I'm in the process of having Mikey retune my car and after just 2 revisions, the car pulls so much harder with full boost around 3200 rpm, at which point the car just lunges forward.

Sound-wise, the car is probably 30% quieter. I have a Perrin catted TBE, which I felt was a bit on the loud side and also droned a bit, but the EL header has decreased the noise to a much more comfortable level and improved the droning considerably as well. The boxer rumble is 70% gone and I have to listen hard to hear the remaining rumble, but IMO, the overall performance gains are worth it. The car feels good!

Just purchased the tomei equal length headers .
I'm glad to see boost was not compromised with the tomei header .
Looking forward to getting massive torq increase with the tomei .

I have a gtspec el header, not a tomei, but I also love my el header. I recommend them to everyone.

I honestly don't know why anyone would ever even consider an uel header.

I chose to do the UEL header, has a nice rumber and got great results.
Had tuned at PRE racing in Portland, OR.

Mods:
Tomioko UEL header- wrapped
Tomioko up pipe

Car feels and sounds great, I really doubt an EL header would have given me much better results and love the rumble

Yeah, well designed UEL headers seem to produce similar gains to EL headers. My reason for going EL was for engine efficiency, although I do miss the rumble.

I don't miss it .

I absolutely love how it sounds now . when you open it up all the way it sounds like a very high end car .
