Default anyone with engine experience around edmonton

i have a 97 wrx-sti gc8- 127k kms
i have a knocking/ticking in one of my cylinders compared it the sounds valve tick and lifter make on youtube, no engine code coming up other than throttle sensor, i am currently replacing the crankshaft/ oil pump/ camshaft seals in the hope that if there are any air leaks aerating the oil/ or coming in through the seals this will fix this noise, also replacing the timing belt. once this is done will fire up the engine with a mix of 10w-30 royal purple full synthethic oil and some reslone and run to see if its from crud build up, if anyone has had this problem before and has fixed it any suggestions on other things to check before having to bite the bullet and check the lifters or replace a rod?

thanks in advance

Remove your exhaust manifold and check the exhaust valve guides. They like to push out. Can result in rough running and ticking. Until they give out completely. Worth a quick look.
