Default Air Pump delete? How hard. 2012 WRX

Took the wagon up to Subaru today to get a broken wire fixed. I had posted many times saying that I could not get any scan tools to work on my car well that one wire they fixed was the problem, low and behold the reason being of the CEL was the air pump and the left and right valves. Now they said it would be a 2600 to 2700$ fix . But I found the delete plates for 50$ . What all will need to be done , how hard is it, will I have to get the car tuned once removed, and is there a thread on this already ?

Here is the other thread link http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show....php?t=1209260. I had a local nasioc vendor take out the whole secondary air injection system it was pretty cheap and deleted the codes with a Cobb AP we dont have smog check or any inspection here in FL. Id check your waranty you have a 2012. If you do get the block off plates get KS ones with the gaskets for your year dont know if you have a bpm sensor like the 07. I think someone posted in that thread the stock part number for the subaru block off plates which were cheaper its a long thread.

Your warranty won't cover this repair?

You cannot "void" a warranty, the dealer has to prove that your aftermarket parts or tune caused the system to fail. Go back to the dealer and fight your case. 99% of the time with dealerships if you bitch enough you will get your way.

Did they tell you it was "voided" or are you simply assuming it is?

I've seen people get this covered under warranty due to the fact their evap emission control system wasn't modified or affected by modifications. I would definitely push to get it covered and not assume your warranty is voided if you haven't tried.

I got a blown motor replaced for free with a perrin inlet hose and grimmspeed aos installed. Its burden of proof that what you have done cause the failure. Otherwise they could say oh you used non OEM windshield wipers so your now failed transmission isnt covered.

As several other members already stated, your warranty cannot be voided. They can only refuse certain warranty work if it is determined that a mod caused the failure.

That said, I cannot think of a mod that would cause a wire to never have worked from the factory or an air pump to fail on a pretty new car ... Unless your not telling the whole story behind this issue.

If you are telling the whole story, I would absolutely take your issue to SOA if your dealer won't cover it.

Not to thread jack but does any one know the part numbers for the oem air pump delete plates? I know that the one from the tribeca is the larger one p#14754AA050 will work for both sides if you drill the holes out on one of them but i have seen there was another oem plate that is a direct fit?

So just go up there and tell them to fix it under warranty or just delete . The modifications done to the car prior were Cobb AP Stage 2 91 tune , Tomei Down pipe , Cobb SF intake and invidia cat back. Could any of those have caused the problem .

no you shouldn't have had to pay for anything. Tell them that your mods do not affect the secondary air pump at all. If they try to screw you over yet again threaten to take your issue to SOA. That will probably change their minds a little.

Most dealerships i have dealt with charge you for diagnosis and if fault is covered under warranty you get a refund.

Alright . The wire had been been my fault though , bumper had been getting painted and had no fender liners so a rock had ripped a wire .

That's fine .. then forget the wire.

As for the air pump, since you have a catless DP, my guess is that the dealer is going to argue that you modified the emission control system so they won't cover it.

I guess it comes down to whether or not you want to go to war over this, or just say screw it and delete it. I think if you fought you would win in the end because the presence or lack of a catalytic converter does not effect the function of the air pump. The pump does not know or care if there is a catalytic converter there or not.

Whatever you decide, there is no way I would pay 2500 bucks to repair it if I were you.

Like Hinshaw said, going back to stock at this point will not help you. Since a dealership has seen your car modded already, it is probably flagged in the computer as modified.
