I am very close to buying some, but I am just wondering if there are any reasons (aside from harder to centre) I should not? It's for a 2004 wrx.

By "lug centric," I am assuming you mean that the wheels will not be hubcentric for your car, so the wheel will be centered only by the lugs. There are two reasons that might be true. One is just that the hub bore is bigger than your hub. In most cases you'd just use a hubcentric ring of the right size to make the wheel hubcentric to your car.

(One exception to the hub ring statement above is if you have 57.1mm wheels on the 56.1mm Subaru bore. It's so close you can't really make a ring to center them -- it would be 0.5mm thick, which would barely hold together.)

The other is that the wheel is designed with a very large center hole, and no adapter could be used. That's true of some old-style steel wheels, and some current wheels like Diamond brand steel wheels.

If you do run the wheels without centering rings around the hub, it MAY work out fine. I ran several sets of wheels on my Lancer Evolution with no hubcentric rings, lug-centered only, and I never had any problems with vibration, even on the race track. It's not "harder to center." You just bolt them on.

On the other hand, you MAY have vibration or out-of-round issues. All it would take is a slightly tweaked stud or a hole that's not quite right, and your wheel will never be exactly on-axis with the hub. This isn't common, but it can happen.

So: stay with hubcentric if you can. But if that's not possible, don't be afraid to try it lug-centric.

I also have a water jet at my disposal, so making custom centring rings is not out of the question if that would cure any issues.
