Question EJ20K in '02 WRX...what's in store for me?

Looking to replace my stock EJ205 with another engine. Found a EJ20K locally, and if I could make it work I'd love to.
Just curious as to what I'll be needing to do to make it all work out.

So far this is what I know for sure:
  • Tune (Tactrix or AccessPort (seller has tune specs and some baseline maps to work from))
  • Crank Sensor
  • MAF sensor (I can use the MAF/Intake Tube from my current engine, correct?)
I want to make sure I have a complete list, so I can be sure to have a complete list of parts that are needed before I purchase. Things like rad hoses, sensors, IM, Coil Packs, etc. Anything else anyone can glean some light on, that would be great!

TIA!

I would rather go for an ej207 or a ej255

I would too, but they're few and far between in stock and unabused form.
And for the price, this one is a fresh rebuild, has some built internals that can take it where I'd like to be HP wise, without a problem, and is considerably less in the end doing some conversions, over finding a replacement EJ205/7 or EJ255 and rebuilding myself.

I know I'm going to pay up front in hassle for the short-cut but worth it IMO for a bolt-in ready set-up (w/ as little downtime as possible).
If it turns out I'm getting in way over my head I don't have to move on it, but I'd like to move past this dying engine and get on with things.

Are you planning on using your ej205 heads and intake manifold? If not you will have to get the ecu for the engine you want to buy and look into if everything bolts up do you know what year the engines from I'm not to familiar with pre 2000 jdm engines

I was going to say use your complete intake manifold off the 205 and put it on the 20K long block how ever I think the 205 is a phase 2 motor so the manifold bolt patterns will be different, I believe the CR is different between the motors as well.

There is a lot more to it to make the EJ20K work in a newer car and frankly it is not worth it. Your intake manifold will NOT work on this engine. Your ECU will NOT run this engine.

thanks guys!
The seller said my IM would work...but now I'm not sure. And he said I'll need the cam gears/timing trigger and CAS from my engine, but sounds like I'll need more.
might have to walk away from this one.
it's a shame, since it has a nicely built head and forged pistons/rods and is completely rebuilt. Only ran on the dyno stand to ensure it runs.
:/
