Or just move to the right lane and ignore them like a normal adult. Holding up all of traffic because one person is trying to race you is a good way to get a whole lot of drivers ticked off at you and is illegal in most states

If it's at a street light, my favorite method is to throw a rev back at them, then just turn left/right at normal speeds when the light's green.

Ignore them. The greatest tool/tactic in any confrontation IMHO

Why do you assume confrontation ? They want to be ahead. Let them be.

I was picking up my girlfriend's mom from the Honda dealer because she dropped her car off for service. All 3 of us were coming back on the freeway in the carpool lane and I had to get out of the carpool lane to get to my exit. I notice there is a early 00' Mercedes slightly behind me in the next lane over. I gently accelerate (her mom has back issues) to get enough space to change lanes. Then the Mercedes guns it and gets ride beside me. Then he slows down so I continue to try and get over again. He did the same exact thing. I flipped him off and slowed down and went behind him. He got slowed by traffic as I was exiting and he flipped me off as I went by.

TL;DR

IBCCW, anyway.

Flashing a gun usually works for me.

Nobody's messed with me in my wrx. When I had my DSM it happened all the time though. I just ignored them and continued at my own pace.

I was driving home with my girlfriend after picking up breakfast on Sunday morning. I am just cruising with the windows down back home and a brosef in a v6 mustang is in the lane next to me. I am going faster than he is and I begin to pass him then he accelerates trying to race me. We just laughed our asses off at him.

Careful with that. A coworker of mine did that and is in the Fulton county jail for 3-5 years. He flashed it to a cop that was off-duty in civilian clothes in his POV. The charges were IIRC Brandishing and Assault with a Deadly Weapon. The DA said even if you think someone is trying to start something, while driving; the best course of action is to ignore them.

Only real time anybody tried to race me was about 9:45 on a pretty busy boulevard in my city. I was kinda sick at the time and was coming back for the store with my cough drops and NyQuil and I was plenty tired. So this big redneck bro pulls up in this big ol 80s lifted ford whatever, comes up next to me and pulls ahead a few times and slows down back at my speed, after I while I just got tired of him and dropped a gear and took off. The light ahead of me was red so I slowed down and just made a right turn to avoid further racing with this unsatisfied redneck.

In hindsight, probably not the best idea but at least I put another brobi wan kenobi down a little.

I've found hurling rice cakes at wannabe racers to be a pretty effective deterrent. They're tasty and you can get some good distance on them since they're frisbee-shaped.

This thread should be studied by psychologists. Its 4 years old and still gets comments about Public Reaction during Confrontation on the Road. Some astounding responses here really.
