Thanks for the info
No prob. BTW what are your intentions of getting an exhaust and intake?

TBH, they did nothing for me other than create noise. In terms of power, I felt the power band moved up in the RPM band, which made low end torque feel low. The car did feel less restricted, but Cost vs gain in performance, didn't make sense to me honestly.

It's so nice to have a Top-Mount Cold Air Intake when there's plenty of cold air to take in.

2010 Impreza Outback Sport Automatic
Custom UEL Headers (97-05 EJ25, cut to fit)
Magnaflow High Flow Cat
2012 WRX Resonator
18" Magnaflow Muffler
4" Stainless Steel Tip

Cost: Parts were around $300 and labor was around $200. $500 total and it's less than the price of headers made to fit this model.

Likes: BOXER RUMBLE!
Dislikes: CEL every once and a while, but I can easily clear it with an OBDII bluetooth adapter & the Torque Pro app.

A lot of cutting and welding was done to make everything fit together, but in the long run to me it was worth it. No noticeable power loss, but idle seems to be a little bit lower on the RPM scale.

Pics: (magnaflow cat not pictured)

Bought the car with a Magnaflow Glasspack muffler. It sounds great, not too loud at idle, nice rumble on acceleration, really nice rumble off throttle. Stock headers, stock CC, and stock( I think) exhaust resonator. I removed the intake resonator and installed a 3 inch adjustable length CAI hose( purchased from Amazon for 20.00) that goes directly into the stock air box using a K&N panel filter. The other end of the CAI hose is routed through the fender down to the mounting hole for the fog lights. So I get cold air, forced induction straight into my stock air box. Pros: I noticed a smoother, lower idle, better sound during acceleration, better throttle response, a bit of improvement in low rpm torque, and a lot of improvement in acceleration through out the entire rpm range, great responsiveness at 70+ MPH, better gas mileage, about 1-3 gallons per mile highway. Cons: I drive on some very dusty roads and have had to clean my K&N more often. If it gets too dirty my check engine light comes on, but goes off after I clean it. For 20 bucks and about 45 minutes of work, it was definitely worth the gains.

hybrid intake/resonator delete
charcoal filter delete
K&N panel filter
muffler delete

It's really opened things up a bit, revs more easily and sounds great. Gas mileage is the same and power is the same but because it revs more easily it gets up to speed more quickly. When I installed the intake tubing (same diameter as stock resonator) to replace the deleted resonator the car hesitated slightly for a few seconds right after startup while it was still warming up. This lasted for about a week, I'm not sure but I'm assuming that the ecu adjusted for the difference.

So after researching and finding many contradictory answers online I gave in and bought a full STI exhaust being sold as a unit for a good deal.
Turns out that after checking to see if it would bolt up directly like half the info online seemed to indicate, the axle back is.. a few MM too big to fit on my mid pipe and the mid pipe flange is 90 degrees off from my cat flange like some of the info suggested it would be.

I'm wondering, what do you guys think it would cost to get a small adapter made to fit the STI midpipe to my cat? The STI midpipe is maybe.. 5cm's shorter than my RX one so I'm pretty sure 5cm's plus the 90 degree turn gives me enough room to stick an adapter in instead of cutting and re welding.

Also when I get this connected I'll make a little post about my stock pipes and the process of fitting the STI ones on because all the info I found online was for 2.5RS's or 2.0 WRX's the 2.0 RX seems to be quite an uncommon model which is why I had such trouble finding out the right info :/ hopefully it'll help someone in the future

EDIT: Some mock ups of how I could connect them, although the second from the right, I'm not sure I could stretch the rubber mounts enough for that to work, so I'm assuming either extending the cat or an adapter would be the only ways

Not without cutting/welding. And then you would have a crappy n/a exhaust manifold.

Use the Search tool or even google. This has been asked by tons of n00bs like yourself.

Search Google. I forget who makes one but they're out there. If I find it I'll report back.
Edit: they do exist...just gotta find them. This is an old FS thread but it should be what you need. http://www.rs25.com/forums/f177/t152...t-adapter.html

So, after reading some 15-20 of the most recent posts of this thread, I gather than, besides getting a nice rumble sound, there is no other *real* benefit in getting a catback, am I right? I am looking for a few mods for my 05 RS (auto tranny), and this is one of the mods I have/ had in mind. Now, I'm not so sure I wanna do it first.

Options? Suggestions? Thanks in advance!

I've got the same car except manual, I put on a magnaflow muffler and cut out the last cat and put in a resonator, it's loud, not raspy, and has an awesome rumble.

If anybody needs some info on the swap let me know. I took a bunch of other pictures.
I would love some more info/pictures about the swap if possible.

I have a 2006 2.5i impreza and I want to get a Stromung dual-tip axle-back and a Stromung Intermediate pipe. But on their website it only lists a mid pipe for 99-05 impreza's. I am guessing this won't just bolt right up to my down pipe/cat

The 06-07 has a different piping layout. You'd need a header and cat pipe for 99-05 to match. The axle back will work. The mid pipe is the issue. Too short I think?

Yeah. Either that or they stopped making an '06-'07 mid pipe. Because this guy seems to have one. In his description it says "Stock headers and cat section, stromung midpipe and single-tip axle back."

Yes, they had it on their site a while back when I was looking at exhausts, that was long ago.
