Question MY99 LSD swap

I would like to swap in an LSD. I have a 99RS with 5MT. I know I have a 4.11 ratio and that I need an LSD from a MY00-01 5MT. Would this be a direct drop in replacement, or would I have to worry about axles and other things. I'm looking for ease here. Thanks for any info.

As far as I know you will also need the rear axles. The ones for the LSD rear diffs are slightly different or so I was told when I was looking for a diff for my swap.

Not knowing enough about your model year think about this as a possibility.

Find an LSD with the wrong gear ratio but that will drop in directly.

Take the ring a pinion from your differential and swap it into the LSD

That way you dont have to modify the vehicle in anyway. To return it to stock just drop another 4.11 open diff. To replace axles just purchase the normal ones.

This is what I did, I got a 4.44 lsd and a spair 4.11 open diff for my legacy and mixed the parts.

All you need is the differential from an RS either a 2000 or 2001. Everything else should match up with no problem assuming you a have a 1999 RS. If you have a L then you will need a rear diff. from a legacy turbo and the rear axles as well because they do not match up. The other possibility is the ring and pinion swap with a different gear ratio but that may be pricey (Must be professionally done I think?), I have not researched this option.

Professionally done? I did it all alone with my own tools as well.

Id say you have a snowballs chance in hell to find a cheap legacy LSD. I might have one for sale soon though..... 3.9 ratio

How much do used 00-01 LSD go for. New they are like $1300.

Do they really make that big of a differance? I mainly auto-x but there might be some local drift events soon .

quaife diffs can be had for around $1000, so I would look to pay around 3-400 for a my00-01...

If not, get the phantom grip...

Open diff axles are different from LSD axles. They have a different spline count. I don't have the actual spline count yet, but I should have it within a week. So, if you purchase an LSD from a 2000-2001 RS then you MUST get the axles for it as well. Axles can be had for $45 each from www.4subarusuzukikiaparts.com. The LSD itself runs for about $400 from a number of yards.
