Thanks, that clears up my confusion. I thought (for some reason) that the FWD BMW plans had been axed and that the 2 was just what they were going to call the 1 series coupe.

My first car was a 1981 BMW 320i. I'm well aware of what the old model designations were, but I do appreciate that you spelled it all out.
