I'd rather not have power seats. Unless the car has more than one frequent driver, I don't see any advantage. I doubt many sporty cars like this have more than one driver on a regular basis.

To each their own I guess....I found it comfortable and in my current Impreza with manual seats....while I don't adjust my seating daily I adjust them when I have rear passengers. Also most power seats have more points of adjustments that make having them useful; even the new WRX will have power seats available.

A few less horsepower, choice of manual or DSG, 5 door only.

Oh baby, that is looking better and better and better.

5 door DSG may be worth a test drive. But will probably buy a manual.

If it is better than my car you will love every single second of it.

If it had a Scirroco body I'd be all over it.

I'm still hoping for the power seats since I won't be needing the racing seats for dd'ing

Finally. Putting less doors on the otherwise same exact car never made any damn sense to me anyway, but having a transmission choice is great.

I wonder if SOA will get their head out of their ass by the time this comes, and sell us a hatch to compete. If not, sign me up for a Golf R DSG. I'd buy one today if it was available.

I wonder if VW will hint pricing at Detroit.

At least that. I expect them to up it a bit over the last model. They just have to stay clear of Audi territory.

I'm a DSG guy so that would be my pick. I wonder how the R will be priced in comparison to the similar spec. S3.

Even though I'm the sole person in my Golf 99.999% of the time, I went with 4 doors. After having a 2-door Impreza, smaller doors are just easier, regardless of passenger count. And since there will be no WRX hatch, I'll be sticking with VW or even a Ford Fiesta ST.

Do you know if there's any difference in residual value between two and four door vehicles like the Golf and GTI?

I would think it would be easier to sell a 4 door, but I am just thinking out loud.

I sure hope subaru has something really good up their sleeves for the sti reveal. Otherwise VW is going to be stealing some turbo charged awd thunder.

Is there any indication that this will be another limited run for the US market?

It's been said a few times that these cars won't be limited...can't find an article on that right now.

Like everything else, this is VW complicated...

Initially, the Golf 7 R for our market will have to come from Germany because Haldex/4motion isn't fully supported in North America yet. The only other Golf 7 that will come from Germany (initially anyway) is the eGolf in 4-door trim. To avoid more certification expense, Germany stipulated 4-door only for our Golf 7 R coming from Germany as well. However, VWoA fought for both transmission choices this time around and got both manual and DSG models approved.

Could the 2-door come later sourced out of Mexico? Yes it could. When? That's a big question and would be at least a couple years out. It is probably complicated a little bit by a special edition Golf above the R but I can't talk about that rumor...

Jamie from Vortex is the best inside source we have with VW

So.. it seems like they aren't aiming for a limited edition this time.
