Default Is it true that 07 sti pulls harder than the 08?

So I test drove a stock 08 hatch in a dealer a week ago. I have driven my friend's 07 before, I feel the 07 pulls way more harder than the 08, my friend's 07 is stock, don't know what map he runs tho. Is it the 07 have stronger pull when the boost comes on?

The cars are very similar in terms of acceleration, power to weight ratio and gearing. One shouldn't "pull way harder" stock for stock than the other unless one has something wrong with it. Like the guy above said, this would be assuming you had the 08 in S# mode.

If he's stock then he runs a stock map, unless he has an accessport or ecu/possible stage 1?

Each newer chassis has gotten faster than the previous. As well the newer chassis has typically gotten more modding potential.

I did as soon as I hit the road, and I felt the throttle response change.

The 08 did not impress me at all, the boost comes on very smooth, but the 07 I drove previously has blown my mind when the boost comes on, it was like nothing when I flat foot the throttle, and after 4000 rpm, all the sudden the car was like "boom"!

Oh one thing I didn't mention is when I test drive the 08, after few pulls, the low fuel light is on, is that a factor that limits the power when the sti running on low tank of gasoline?

Many things could have factored into your faint "hard pull" feeling.

No. The car will continue to accelerate normally right up to the point it runs out of gas, sputters and goes BOOM!

One question I have for you. Does your friend's '07 have any aftermarket suspension mods? A stiffer, lower suspension will make a car seem to accelerate harder.

So 2 different cars felt different when you drove them?

Engine tuning that smooths the transition to boost will "feel" slower even if it's not while the "Whomp" in your back when full boost arrives at 4000rpm which make the car "feel" faster.

Unless you ran them side by side or at a track w/ timers you can't be sure which is actually faster.

Actually, a worn out suspension would cause more weight transfer front to back making it seem to accelerate harder.

Both cars are all stock include the suspension. The 08 is softer, but I feel it's more stable and nimble on turns.

Maybe I'm too subjective about the power between two cars, there is a half year gap between two test drive, I need to do a back to back test drive on the 07&08 to confirm that thou. Thanks for the discussion guys!

You're asking us to explain a feeling which lacks any proper definition whatsoever. This isn't a forum of telepathic mediums. Impression of "pulling harder" is a combination of noise, linear acceleration, pavement, suspension, hormone levels, time of day, blood alcohol content, tyre pressure, and psychological state.

Gas quality can be a huge factor.if its half a year apart test thats most likely the case.
