Default Another hybrid thread..

Have a built 06 257 with Rods/Pistons from manley. ACL Bearings, new nitrated crank...basically the works for the shortblock.

I did what everyone hates here though, EJ205 heads that I didn't have CNC'd and used a thicker MLX cometic headgasket. It's a daily driver with RA gearset 5 speed (the car is a WRX) and has a 35r on it. Considering the car ran great on a stock block with me beating the piss out of it for so long then why go through the hassle of CNC'ing the heads for a DD. Just looking for around 400 hp, which it was previously tuned to and detuned to around 350.

Question: Who has a similar set-up and tuned with E-85? Did you achieve timing similar to what the CNC'd heads are capable of? Did you detonate at all? How many miles on the build and what HP level? Again considering its the DD I want to have some fun but at the same time need some longevity. Looking back if I had an extra month or it was summer where I could drive the race car to work I would have gotten the heads done, but I'm past that. I'd like to run conservatively on boost and timing...maybe 20-24 psi with 21-25* on E-85 and 21 psi on 93 with around 21*. Looking for input from people with similar builds/situations.

Thanks!

I run a hybrid without the head work but I run the je hybrid pistons. I have 400 awhp on a 20g on 91 with meth. Without the head work the pistons is the way to build it. The thicker gasket doesn't tune well.

Thanks for the reply. I actually just saw there was hybrid pistons after my build...woops! I'm hoping this build lasts 30 to 50k miles then I can take it apart and do everything right when I'm not in a rush.

Did u bolt it together already??? i would vote to just get the head work done.. you put all that cash into the engine already a few hundred more for longevity is a drop in the bucket.
