Default QTP Electronic Exhaust Cutout info

(also in the cutout thread) http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...+cutout+thread

QTP Electronic Exhaust Cutout on my downpipe (07 STI). Here is a link of how it sounds at idle.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ueFjqzxoB8g

Pros:
Loud! (but not as loud as a naturally aspirated straight piped engine, thanks to the turbo)
Turbo sounds like a jet liner
Rev matching for heel-toe downshifts is beautifully quick, esp compared to stock exhaust (this can prevent shift lock, which is dangerous at the limit of traction on a twisty road)
Can open partially to get right sound
Feels like a quality, heavy duty unit
More power (only if you have a more restrictive muffler after the cutout)

Cons:
Get a tune! (may spool quicker and boost spike, at the minimum check your datalog)
Cost to install (make sure you want to keep your downpipe)
Switch is a B**** to install (have it wired in if you're not experienced)
Scrapes sometimes (depends on mounting location)

I didn't list 'leaks' as a con because although it may leak I can't really tell. QTP says it constantly applies pressure to minimize leaks.. whatever.

I put the switch in the blank insert to the left of the I/C spray button. It wiggles a little but otherwise fits perfectly. Sometimes you bump it getting in and out. However, the coin tray shattered the in-line fuse so make sure it is out of the way (zip ties).

For tuning I left it open. Have a straight through Turbo XS muffler so shouldn't be much difference in restriction.

*EDIT: an established tuning shop recommended a separate map open vs. closed. Some say you need a tune some say you don't. Maybe a tune will maximize the benefit. I ran mine open and it lost power dramatically around 5k, shortly after peak boost. May have been overboost fuel cut.*

*edit #2: shop was able to tune out the problem, whatever it was. Now I'm running a street tune from a very well known tuner and no issues (1.5 years) open or closed. He said it would be ok. However, I now have full catless 3" exhaust. Open vs. closed on a more restrictive exhaust, i.e. stock, might require separate maps.

Nice! How does DMH cutouts compare to the QTP. Looking to do this myself, but hard to find tuning shop that is willing to install.

I don't know about DMH. What I can say is that QTP redesigned their motor housing and it's beefy. All the parts are high quality. I just removed my downpipe and the switch cable unhooks easily.

My tuning shop installed mine for about $140 I think? could be wrong...
not including wiring.

Keep in mind you will probably need the tune adjusted. I haven't rev'd mine open over 4k rpms again and won't until I get a tune.

I think I was getting overboost fuel cut. Not so good. That was on a tune with stock cat back. Now with my 3" tbe tune it should be ok to boost with the dump open. Kinda feels like a shot in the dark
