Question 06 2.5i Power Steering pump dying; what fits it?

So as the title says, my Power Steering pump is dying a slow painful death. Started with a weird clunk on a very cold morning a month ago, and has slowly turned into a whine and heavier steering wheel.

So, I'm gonna try to grab a cheapie from a part out, but I don't often see part outs on here for 2006 2.5i's, so was wondering what other Subaru models/years fit the 06-07 Impreza 2.5i's?

Thanks for any help!

Have you tried just replacing the O ring on the top? The whining sound may be air in the system. I replaced the top O ring and topped off the fluid, the whining went away, that was at 70K miles, I now have 97K miles. It was a cheap $.50 ring from Ace hardware.

I need to find the correct size, the old O ring was completely stretched and the new one was a snug fit.

http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/show...28&postcount=7 the O ring is in the top inlet nozzle and it's only held in place by a 10mm bolt. Be careful with spills, I would put a lot of paper towels around the pump before you start working on it.

Anyone possibly know the correct O-ring size for the 06 pump? The only way I am getting to the store is with my car so I can't exactly just remove the inlet and o-ring and go to the store...

In one of the threads posted above, they stated 11mm ID x14mm OD x2mm as a good size....however everything is in fractions when I look. Any ideas?

Well I actually ended up buying 2 o-ring kits from my local Harbor freight and one of them seemed to fit fine. No whine or moaning while driving now, however the power steering still isn't right. could either be some bubbles stuck in the line or the pump is actually just outright failing. Basically it seems fine until im turning and i hit a big bump, then the steerwing wheel has mini convulsions as it tries to keep up with the force working against the pump.

Did you bleed any air out of the system?

I have the same issue too. Replaced the o-ring, put some silicone goop around the head of the bolt to ensure that no air will come in, replaced the front 2 clamps with the screw type, and I'm getting clunking. The PS doesn't whine anymore, but I definitely do get a clunk and convulsions.

I have enough fluid in the system, and I tried to burp the air out. Since I don't have the whine, is it a matter of bleeding/flushing the PS fluid or should I be thinking about replacing the hoses because there's a possible leak somewhere?
