Default 11 wrx stall after start up

Today my 11 wrx on cobb ots stage 2 91acn stalled right after I started up the car.

It cranked normally, started up normally and when the rpms drop from the initial spike, it just fell all they way through and turned off the engine. I tried it again right after and it was fine.

I read the ecu with the ap but no codes. Anyone know what I should be checking out next?

Mods are catted tbe and Cobb ap

Go about life and chalk it up to a random occurrence if it doesn't happen again. If it were me I would not worry about it unless the way it drives is different or it repeats it.

My friends stumbled at first start up (but didn't stall) after flashing both stage 1 and later stage 2 maps, then the idle cleaned up.

I had something like that on my 06 WRX, but once it happened once, it kept happening consistently. My problem ended up being with an o-ring in my fuel pump, so the pump was replaced.

I have had this happen before. After you flash the car, make sure you turn the ignition off and then restart the car.

Did you have any other symptoms? I feel like I'm running to rich because my exhaust is always black and ashy. Or did it smell like gas?

You're running rich because it is a cobb ots map. Theyre rich on purpose to be "overly safe"

In some cases theyre far too rich though..

Sounds like you may have a small leak in the fuel system somewhere. Most likely in the tank it's self. Probly an oring

or it was nothing.

Unless you have a wideband then you cant positively say you are running rich. My 06 pipe was black too. But I wasnt running rich at all. My AFRs were a tad richer according to my WB but not rich enough to be of concern.

"Overly safe" ots maps from cobb? Ok, im new to this stuff. I too have black ashy exhaust. Im running a stage 2 low waste gate to be more conservative myself. What should U do. Thinking of getting a torqued performance e tune to solve this 'rich' issue. I dont want to blow my motor.

Running rich is better than running lean, but as others said here, unless you have a wideband you really don't know.

My advice would be to buy a good wideband and mount it ... Especially if you are modding, which of course you are.

You only need to run the low wastegate duty map if you are overboosting so I would just run the regular map if you are hitting the target boost. There are a lot of people who run the ots maps for years.

If you are that worried about reliability then get a custom map from a protune.

Assuming you have complete trust in your tuner. Many many cases of bunk "custom tunes" wreaking these motors. Off the shelf tunes? Not so much.

Also remember when you flash a tune, you're clearing all the long term fuel learning trims. Chances are warmup enrichment flooded the car out of something and the ecu didn't account for it quick enough.

Regarding black exhaust tips, if you're catless and drive in boost ever, you will, have sooty tips.

Not if you go to a good tuner. I have COMPLETE faith in Top Speed Motorsports. If I didn't I would not let em touch my car. That's why people need to do their own research and figure out what's best for them and what they are willing to pay for.

But your right if you let just anyone tune it you are running a risk. That's why you should let a well known tuner do it unless you have a lot of disposable income.
