Default New to the Subbie world

Hello all,
Im new to the subaru world, just purchased my first on 3/5/14, Sonic Yellow 2003 WRX wagon. Perrin up pipe, Godspeed downpipe, factory sti shifter, protuning blue 1.5" drop springs, drag dr31 17s wrapped in 215 45 17 kuhmo ecsta ast, stage 2 tune, aps cold air intake, and borla hush full exhaust.

I bought my car from a friend, it has been well taken care of, the first owner was actually a subaru dealers wife for the first 75xxx miles, and he drove like a grandpa the last 25000. Just wondering if at 100000 miles there is anything i should be concerned with looking at right away. Mechanically it feels awesome, a ton of power. The only thing I have noticed, and am guessing its just because of how the engine is set up, at idle I get a slight shake. Its not quite as much of a shake as a miss would cause, but more a steady pulsing. My wife noticed when she drove it as well.

Any tips for a new guy would be great, I know quite a bit about cars, just new to subaru as I've always owned mitsubishi.

Thanks in adavance,
Mat

1) Well done filling out your profile. Not many do that, and it's nice to see.
2) When you say "Stage 2 tune", do you mean an off the shelf tune? That may not be completely compatible with your intake, causing the shake at idle.
3) Things to be concerned about at 100k miles. You claim to know "quite a bit about cars". Have you checked your owner's manual about proper maintenance? You're getting close (actually beyond if you go by months I believe) to having the timing belt and water pump serviec. That would be something I'd look at ASAP.
4) Subbie is what you and your wife do in the bedroom. Subie is what you're driving. It's not a Subbaru like "sub"marine. It's a Subaru, like Soooooobaru.

Other than that, well done. Always loved the yellow WRX's. Especially where they only made each yellow for 1 year. It's relatively rare.

The tune was put on by my friends friend. I was just told stage 2, therefore thats what i call it. Sorry for the incorrect spelling, i'll blame it on being new. I have already started looking into water pump and timing belt since that is an every brand required maintenance. I guess I should have been more specific and asked if besides required maintenance if there is anything to look for or check.

Anything beyond required maintenance kind of goes out the window once mods are introduced. We could say that your up-pipe on an '03 would start to go, but that's been replaced. suspens... nope.

May want to check with your buddy re: the tune. See if it was a protune, Accessport off the shelf map, etc. If it was an AP OTS map, do you have the AP?

I can find out, all i know for sure is they used a tactrix cable since it came with the car. His friend also had a wrx and had the tuning software. I also know the tune was done after the few engine mods it has. So i wil cntact him to find out type of tune.

Motor mounts maybe? That's all I can think of, other than it missing due to a bad tune.

Well i found out its a tune that he had and altered to the car and its mods. I forgot its also got a walbro 255lph pump on it. Its not even really a shake, more of a pulsing, rpm doesnt move, gets incredible gas mileage (to me it seems so anyway, 100 miles on a quarter tank of in town driving and a few hard pulls. But i drive like a grandpa in town). I'll check the motor mounts, i just wasnt sure if minimal vibration was normal since its a boxster motor. It goes away above idle. Thanks everyone.

No such thing as miles per tank (or partial tank). Miles are per gallon only.
Possibly motor mounts, since it sounds like the engine is running smooth.
Since your friend had a tactrix cable and installed the tune that way, it is custom. It is not an Accessport tune. That answered all that.

Boxer, not Boxster. Because the pistons look like a boxer's arms.

Welcome to the forum, Mat.

Effingham. Is that a real place? Is it really called Ham and you're just very unhappy you're from there?

I kid. Nice car. Enjoy it.

Thanks loyale. I guess i have quite a bit to learn about these cars and terminology.

Gallo, yes its a real place n south central illinois. The comedian Jeff Dunham did a show here and was making jokes about it with walter his puppet. It was hilarios. And thanks!
