Default 03 rs to ej257 swap questions

So i have a 03 RS im going to STI swap(despite the hate i might get for not just buying a STI,i got the car for dirt cheap)
i have done a few of subaru transmissions and motor swaps so im quite familiar with these cars.
so heres my situation, im about to buy a complete ej257 (hopefully with a six-speed)with manifold and wiring harness. i know i will haft to swap in a ecu and main harness and i have some questions i want to figure out before the swap and any help i will be very grateful!

1.i know i will have to switch out throttle bodys because of the difference in throttle cable and drive by wire. Will i be able to bolt up a stock wrx throttle body to the sti manifold??

2. i was just hoping to get an ecu and main harness from the same year except have it be a wrx so its all just plug and play will that plug directly into the ej257 harness on the engine and if so will i be able to swap only the ecu and main harness for it to work??

3. or would a main harness and ecu from an (from the same year as the engine) plug straight into the current wiring with out any modification??

thanx and i think what im going to do is i have bought an 03 wrx manifold ecu and wiring harness so it will all just plug and play and i have to locate some 2.0 heads to put on the bottom end of a ej257 into my six speed that will be a hybrid swap

I've done something similar to my 02 rs years ago. If you want an STi engine in your RS then you want EVERYTHING and I mean everything. Every wire and every harness, front to back. If you do some of the STi harness and use a wrx ecu and throttle body then you wont be utilizing the STi AVCS and you NEED the rear body harness for the fuel pump controller too.

Doing the entire STi harness depending on year also will determine which center console and HVAC you're going to have to run. 04 is manual HVAC which is the same center console as 02-03 WRX/RS. 05-07 STi is auto HVAC and that center console.

Doing a complete swap, motor, trans, rear end, harness front to back is the best case scenario and easiest. No cut corners, pretty much plug and play and simple swap. Do it this way if you can.

^This exactly!^

I did it back in 06 with my 2002 2.5rs and a 04 STi motor & harness swap. - If you swap 100% over but keep the 2.5rs wiper motor then there is only 2-3 wires to do and that's just a repin on the plug.
- If you keep the 5 speed then there are 4 other wires to do. The reverse light switch and the neutral position switch from the 5 speed trans have to get spliced into the STi harness, each are only 2 wires.

The 04 and newer STi HVAC is all digital so you will not have to mess with the cable control stuff from the RS, and you will have to pull the full dash to remove both the cars harnesses anyway.

If you know what your doing and don't have any unforeseen issues you can pull it off in a long weekend 36-48 hours

I agree with the guys above. I'm currently in the process of doing an 05 sti swap into an 02 rs. I'm swapping the entire car so its plug and play and fairly simple. The donor car wasn't cheap but starting with a good donor will pay off in the end. Plus you get all of the sti goodies in one package. One of the main things I'm modifying is the headlight pockets. I want to retain the leveling lights and keep the harness truly plug and play. And the antenna on the driver pillar.
