I'm not much into drag racing, but that is a bummer that the strip is only 1/8mi.

For those that are in the area, does the site have any sort of elevation change to it, or is the road course going to be pretty much flat?

There are definite elevation changes sloping down toward the river on the north side. We'll see how much they leave and/or fill in though. They started clearing trees this past week.

Any new progress reports?

Looking at their FB page they had a link to this article from late December, which starts with, "Though Dominion Raceway in Spotsylvania County is more than a year away from opening..." So I guess it's going to be a 2015 opening. I want it sooner!

On a somewhat related note...

Both of those threads mention Rausch Creek up in PA, which also never came to pass (it was originally going to have a road course in addition to the off-roading/trail riding).
I was also doing some digging around looking at other track projects as I was generating the Official 2014 MAIC Track Day thread. The former BeaveRun is now Pittsburgh International Race Complex (as of a few years ago; I'm behind on my updates ), and apparently there is some work in progress to build the South Course. Dragon's Ridge is still a mystery - their website exists, but that's it. Liberty Bell Motorsports Park is still alive - I exchanged emails with one of the board members at the end of last week and they're slowly but surely working through the permitting process. In his email he said they're hoping to be able to make an announcement in the coming weeks, so hopefully that will be good news.

Not the best pics in the world but enough to show the progress. These are about a month old or so. In the last pic beyond the trees is I-95.

We ran Chumpcar at Pittsburgh last autumn, and yeah, it's PIRC now. They have already started clearing for the South Course, as I recall. Looked like it was going to be a good improvement, since the original course is pretty small even for a 40-car field, IMO.

I would imagine that a 1/8 mile track, as opposed to a 1/4 mile, would keep end of the run top speeds down. Probably something to do with insurance.

I could be wrong.

yes indeed, might not want to step on any toes of some of the other larger dragstrips in the area that pull some of the huge events. like MIR. going 1/4 opens the possibility of funny cars and the like pushing through all the ranges of 200mph+ and the costs to cover things like that
