Default 2007 sti 18x8.5 tire options

I have an 07 sti limited and am looking at a set of summer wheels and tires. Going with an 18x8.5 and can't seem to get a straight answer on what width tire to go with. Wider is always better but I know the tire stores rec 225/40/18. I've heard that some people can run the 255 option without rubbing but wasn't sure what model year differences there might be. Any input is appreciated right now it's factory suspension height but getting some Cobb springs soon or possibly some coilovers but the drop would be the same as the cobbs... Don't want to drop it any more than that for daily driving...

Turns out they're 18x8... Just wanted to update with that info. If that deal falls through they'll be the 8.5

18x8 with a 235-40-18 will work and the 6 speed can benefit from a slightly taller tire. 18x8.5 I would do a 245-35-18. Offset should be in the +44 - 48 range.

I heard the taller tire can mess with the gearing and slow it down a bit...

on the 6 speed, this is a good thing as the gears are already short. Sure, you lose a tiny bit of acceleration, but you stay in gear longer and have a higher achievable top speed.

Contrary to the post above, I'd do a 245/40 or the 235/40.

Hmm... Ok... No rubbing issues with factory strut size and maybe an inch and a half drop?

Nope, assuming a +40-55 offset.

So I think I'm going with the 235/40/18... Not even a half inch taller but bit wider tread will be nice... The 245 size jumps up in price a fair amount hehe... Given where I live a 35 profile might be a bit rough
