Default exhaust

Is there a reason why subaru decreased the pipe size as it gets to the back of the car? I have a 2011 impreza hatch and it goes from what looks like 2 1/4 or 2 1/2 down to what looks like 2 in or smaller as it gets to the axle back. Does not make sense to me. But makes exhaust upgrade cheaper as you really only need the resonator back.

Likely just for further sound deadening to have a quieter car. Cheaper costs too.

Look into a good quality cat back exhaust that's uniform in piping diameter with mandrel bends.

is there any reason you have to follow the same bend and routing of the stock exhaust from the mid pipe back. Could you just run it straight back and out in stead of doing the turn then the 45 degree. There is a hanger there at the exit and if you just use a round muffler you should be ok correct.

Most exhaust shops follow them for clearance issues. You could get one made that's straighter.
