I've been able to do that with a Manager in the DFW but wanted to use my local Discount Tire Shop. Just give him a call and find out.

As a member of a large community of performance drivers, Gabe and I can go through a set per car, of performance tire's in 6 months (which we typically buy from Tire Rack) I'm just wondering if guys higher up in the chain may not be able to negotiate / market discount's regionally if not nationally toward TXIC / NASIOC members. I'm not calling you out Geoff, this is peaceful. I sure as hell don't want a quarrel with you. I'm just curious if Nick and this community could have more sway with national company's, such as, "Tire Rack." I have worked in marketing before and I know more can be done for members in our community.

Tess, no offense taken at all -- I really wish we could. Luke @ Tire Rack used to give moderators/supermods a discount on tires, but the last set I ordered for my X3, he gave me all of ZERO discount vs their web price. We used to have a hookup in Houston for local TXIC stuff.

Nick negotiated the discounts for mods and supermods before, but now it looks like the larger tire sites (Tire Rack) aren't keen on giving mods/supermods much less regulars discounts. It's a shame, and I wish there's more we could do. Trust me. Having to buy new rears twice as often as fronts for staggered BMWs ain't a lot of fun.

And as for TXIC...look at it. First page used to be full of posts and threads from -today-. Now it's all dried up and common to see 3-4 days worth of threads/posts on it.

It has seen a huge fall. It's sad. I used to love visiting this page and seeing all the ridiculousness it spawned.

Ah the glory days.

The last set of Khumo XS 255/40/17 I bought from tirerack had no discount I could find anywhere and on top of that they sent me one tire that had sat in their warehouse for 2 years. Of course all of the tires had the Khumo manu plant codes and run numbers on them. 3 were manufactured in China and the old one in Korea. There were slight differences. Of course tirerack did find another one with the same manufacturing plant and batch number to replace the 2 year old tire. Still, the price has gone way up, the service is worse than ever, and they are simply going mainstream instead of catering to people who need competition or street R compound type tires. They just lost my business with that last purchase.

I used to go to Discount Tire for my purchases. Then I got this car and found out how much more fun it can be with the right high performance summer tires on it. Also found out how limited Discount Tire's inventory was. If they even carried what I wanted it usually had to come from several states over. At that point you might as well go with Tire Rack for the larger selection. Still go to Discount for crap like balance/rotate/flat repair but that's about it.

It must be coming from higher up. Luke used to do me right and get me at least a little discount on stuff. Now, nope. There's definitely room for another tire company to come in and cater to more performance-oriented enthusiasts.

Discount Tire the "professional" tire installation service that doesn't know the difference between an asymmetrical and directional tire.

Yep, had them repair a tire once and they put the tread on the wrong way for the rim (inside out if you will). Didn't notice for several hundred miles. Just hope my r180 diff didn't suffer any damage from it

just walk up to any discount tire guy that help you and tell him you have a specific amount of money and you want a certain brand, model of the tire. See what he can do.

**** i got mine at 700 flat for 4 continental dws. Yes 700 flat, brand new, after tax.

All you have to do is just ask, the least (s)he could say is NO, then just either walk out, or call another store to see how they can help you. Im sure someone, somewhere wants that 700 bucks. If you cannot find any "help", i would suggest you up your price or renegotiate.

If you applied this technique with every BIG purchase, you will save. Small purchase, eh, too little to bother, but you can still apply the same thing to small purchase.

Happy Haggling.
