After 212k miles of solid dependable spirited performance the time has come for my turn at a build. I'm not going over the top, not going for big power or shiny parts, quite the opposite actually. Ideally the car will look and hopefully sound just as it has for the last 11 years only stronger.
I'm starting with the EJ205 block. It died with what is most likely a rod bearing gone. I started it monday morning 2 weeks ago after being out of town all weekend and it immediately knocked hard, and didn't stop knocking when oil pressure came back up. I'll post pics when I tear it down.
I've had an extra EJ205 core that was supposed to get built before this happened, instead other projects always came first and it never started. It is starting now.
My plan:
Using the core EJ205 short block:
* Bore and hone to 1st oversize
* New crankshaft
* New bearings
* New forged pistons
I am going to use a local machine shop, I just moved and need a project to get to know the local pro's. The bad is that none of the local machine shops have a Subaru torque plate, I am looking online for any option to either borrow, rent, or buy a torque plate. Can anyone chime in with advice or a known source for the plate?
