Default Who has gone louder from a Cobb cbe?

Off the top of my head I want to say the cobb cbe has been on my 14 wrx hatch for a solid 3 months.

I have read a couple times that exhausts settle down a bit after a month or so but it seems to have a settled down a lot since I first put it on...

Am I crazy? Have I just gotten use to the sound? Does it really quiet up that much? Sorry if this has been covered but I'm just curious.

Now that I've got all that out on the table... If it really has gotten to the point of "this is the final sound" or "I'm just use to it" (either or). What is the next step based on ACTUAL EXPERIENCE lol. I like the deep tone and rumble of the cobb cbe but what is the next step up in decibels without going too nuts (obviously that's all opinionated).

I'd been driving my gfs focus for 9 days (vacation) and so my car sat at home. I couldn't wait to drive it and to my surprise it sounded even quieter than I remembered lol. I figured it would be the opposite after a week of the focus?!

Any help would be awesome, or just flame away

How are we supposed to know what you're hearing???
Its a pipe. It doesn't settle like springs with new suspension.
Sure, maybe the hanger seat themselves a bit. But it's a pipe, man.

Do DP, you will definitely add aggressive turbo spool with that CBE of yours.

You've grown used to the sound. Now you are simply over thinking something incredibly simple.

The level of sound is the same. I'm sure if you would have compared peak dB from then and now they'd be the same.

In most cases your exhaust won't be completely sealed until you drive it for a few weeks. For example, where my cat meets my catback is 2.5"->3". I have it lined up for the most part but there is the tiniest of leaks that I could see some smoke coming out of. Over time that has filled up with regular exhaust grime, rust, etc. Regardless, that's not a big enough leak to hear it.

What will happen over time is your exhaust will actually get louder. I forget what it's called but the "mesh design" ("ruffles"?) inside the muffler start getting worn therefore it's not able to muffle as well. This isn't a night and day thing but I'm sure if you took a readingnow and then compared one 2 years later you'll see a slight difference.

Throw a down pipe on it and cut the mufflers off. Worked for me. My neighbors hate me even more now. I'm never at less that 5000 rpm as I leave my home in the morning.

An aftermarket down pipe will increase the volume some, but you'll get used to that as well and what's next.?
I say, save yourself the hassle and some cash while you're at it and just sell your catback and roll with an open, catless down pipe! (Seriously, don't do that)
Good luck!

I second this (kind of). My neighbor probably hates me too , although I keep the rpms down. . Been driving straight piped turbo cars for years. I can't go back to a quiet exhaust anymore. Build an axle back strait pipe. You can swap it in 5 minutes and it won't drone much with cats and a resonator.

I have the full Cobb turboback on my '04... seems hella quiet now. Sometimes I don't even hear it driving around town.. like at all. Doesn't register.

... then I drive my dad's stock Forester and it's REALLY quiet, ha.

But really, the Cobb catback/turboback is quiet in the grand scheme of things, especially at lower RPMs. It was designed more for the daily driver, quiet when you need it, loud when you open it up. If you want louder all the time, you need a different exhaust

And to answer what I assume is your question. No, I'm 49. What does that have to do with the sarcastic* remark I made? Are 17 year olds the only people who desire to have a loud car and piss their neighbors off? How about an 18 year old? Or a 19 year old? Hell! I'll bet there are 20 year old people *gasp* who have loud cars and piss off their neighbors.

I've bolded the important word in my stupid rant above so you'll begin to understand who I am and my raison d'etre.

Delicious beer!!

Though you have to also assume that other folks in this thread are under 25 and wouldn't know a beer if it hit them in the face.

Please note, I use 25 as the example due to the fact that your average under 25 year old thinks "craft" beer is a Sam Adams Seasonal.

That said, I have a neat trick I learned the other day!

Ahhhhhh or grocery stores shelves labeled craft beer full of damn SHOCK TOP! Like dominos "artisanal" pizzas. Who do we really think we're fooling? When can we just all join hands across America to agree that we are all dumb asses.
Oh, p.s. Is there a beer/food thread around here?
Sorry to high jack this "going nowhere" thread, but we're talking about good beer here people.

This is not a face value comment. You have to look at the other side of the transaction. You can't fault a salesman for jumping on a market. The dumbass part comes in with the consumer. We've created a society where we do what we're told in all the wrong ways. " A glass or red wine is good, a glass of red wine is bad, buy organic bananas that come from Guatemala." Corporations are allowed full access to all of these "buzz words" that we've created that mean almost nothing and have been tainted to make people show other people how important they are at the grocery store so giant farm companies run by guys in suits make billions and your local farmer can't keep his lights on. While people who actually create quality products right in your back yard because it's what they do get left behind the what's "in" pace. Oh my god. I sound like a dirty hippy. It's not about an attack on "the man". We, as a people should be focusing on practices that better the stability of our communities rather than doing what the "media tells us".
There's my rant. (Well, a small part of it)

Well, we have to end apartheid for one. And slow down the nuclear arms race, stop terrorism and world hunger. We have to provide food and shelter for the homeless, and oppose racial discrimination and promote civil rights, while also promoting equal rights for women. We have to encourage a return to traditional moral values. Most importantly, we have to promote general social concern and less materialism in young people.
