Default Ordered a WRX in June, coming in with wrong (no) packages.

Hey,

I apparently have some bad WRX luck. I originally was scheduled to pick up a WRB WRX in May, then it was damaged in transit. Then my NEXT car got damaged when driving it between dealers for a trade.

I finally said screw it and put down an order in the first week of June. I finally hear the car is coming in, I look at the dealer stock, call them... and lo and behold the car ordered is a Base DGM with no options whatsoever.

When I did the ordering with the dealer, it was written up with the Kicker Package(upgraded speakers, and the sub), Short Throw Shifter Package, and the popuplar equipment package(the one without the carbon applique).

I asked what was going on and the dealer claims the salesman tried to contact me (he didn't) and that they ordered it base to be sure.

They are saying that they can put these on after the fact -- wtf is going on? I'm gonna guess that they probably can make more money this way on the deal? I already negotiated my price, and am pretty pissed off at the moment..

Thoughts?

As long as everything's in writing. IDK what steps to take after but make sure everything is in writing whether it be signed contract or emails. It helps to prove your argument.

You negotiated for a car with X options.

Car comes in without options.

Dealer offers to add options.

If they are genuine Subaru parts, installed by the dealer, warrantied by Subaru, and the car is sold to you at the negotiated price.....

I'm sorry, I don't understand.

holy **** that's a bad sequence of luck. Unbelieveable.

Have them draft up the purchase contract to show the prices you originally agreed to, and have them state on the contract that they will install the options you want, at the prices you agreed to. If you have it in writing they won't be able to change it on you once the car is delivered.

Tell them if they give you too much **** you'll give them a ****ing **** survey when Subaru sends it to you after the sale. dealers CARE about this survey, believe me (I've bought 3 new subaru's within the past 2 years). I've had them give me **** only to kiss my ass with free extended warranty or sweet 0.9% financing just to entice me to give them a better survey. I screw them on the survey anyhow LOL, because honestly they are money sucking snakes so why not.

Otherwise if no middle ground can be reached, get your deposit and order a different car somewhere else.

I've gotten burned pretty bad in my youth by being naive. I guess I am suspicious. I don't understand what their motivation would be for ordering it that way, unless there was some gain in it for them.

I have a price workup with the final price and everything on it. I guess if the numbers are the same it doesn't matter. If they try to screw me around on changing the price around, will I have an issue getting back my deposit? I've never really ordered a car before (I am an instant gratification type of person heh).

People have a choice of where they spend their money most of the time.

Why the hell would you give someone money when that someone screwed up so badly it's not even funny? It's not like you have to color outside the lines to check a, b, and c boxes for options. How hard is it to call a single customer AS a ****ty salesman? One single call back could have solved this entire issue instead of the ****ty salesman assuming you wanted a base trim. He couldn't be bothered to listen or read a piece of paper.

OP, go buy the car at a better dealership. Piss poor customer relations is a nightmare. Don't bother complaining to them. They can't do crap about the time you've wasted on their worthless stealership.

I guess it's better than assuming you wanted a limited?

I'm not sure what all is included in the popular equipment package, but everything else looks like items that can be installed post-port.

If you aren't happy with that, I would ask them for a refund of the deposit and go to another dealership.

This.

OP, you have a contract right with the listed items and negotiated price?

Honestly, if it was me I would skip the Kicker stuff anyway. Aftermarket is cheaper and better. I would just have them take that out of the price of the car and go aftermarket at this point but that is your call. But none of the stuff you listed is really an issue having a dealer install it. Just make sure they don't try to charge you install fees.

Yup. I read some stuff (on this board maybe?) where it was being suggested to help compensate for the lackluster stereo. I really don't care that much but for a couple hundred bucks if it made a good difference why not.

I'm thinking I may do just that however, since the car is here without it installed.

I really only cared about the STS.

Then it seems like a no brainer to sign the paperwork and have them install the items you want to keep per the previous price by the dealer. I wouldn't worry about a dealer installing an STS, they have most likely installed many of them over the years and it is straightforward.

I had the dealer install factory fog lights on my 2015 and they did a great job and I am picky

Enjoy the car.

This. 100% this. They are offering to fix it for you at no extra cost to you. What's the problem? Obviously you have bad luck, but in this case, there is no harm. just hassle.

If there is gain for them, it wouldn't be at your expense. Maybe they make an extra few bucks from SOA for the labor to add the parts.
Think of it this way though. They couldn't confirm from their paperwork (supposedly) what the packages were supposed to be. They aren't going to put on the "premier deluxe I want everything" when all you wanted was the middle of the road. Then they'd be out money. If they order the base model, they can add whatever is needed to meet your original order.

Why is this difficult to understand?

It's a car dealer. Anytime they deviate from your contract it should be sending off red flashing lights and sirens. So yeah, just make sure everything is good in the paperwork and they don't add a bunch of labor costs to install this stuff, change your interest rate, hide in additional fees, etc.

Totally agree. If they deviate, it should be something to pay attention to. But from the OP's story, the dealer is offering to add in all the parts he requested originally, and I see no mention of added cost, change in rate, fees, etc.

As mentioned above. They are SOA parts, installed at an SOA licensed dealer, and will have an SOA warranty.

He's getting fired up and pissed off over something that hasn't happened yet. How about you (the OP) wait and find out what's going on before getting all fired up.

There was a thread on here a while back about a guy who was ready to burn the dealer to the ground for selling him a truck with dents in the roof because he didn't check it before accepting ownership/purchase of the vehicle. The dealer offered to fix it for him, for free mind you, and he still came on here to complain.

People screw up. If they're making it right, that's awesome. If not, then yea, you have the right to be pissed off.

Sounds like how I scored my base model, some guy had a misplaced order heh-heh.

Base is fine man, nothing wrong with base. If I were you I'd just use this as a haggling advantage, and get a lower price on the base model. All those options and parts you can just install yourself anyway.

This actually isn't a bad idea either. You could even build in some "hardship and heartache" for getting the wrong model to get a good price. Most people do aftermarket speakers and such anyway.

Short throw can be had at a fraction of the price from Kartboy, and the carbon applique... well, that's a personal preference.

Please don't pay for the extra audio stuff now that you have the option to drop it. Somethings are better to get from factory as some are not, audio is not one of them. You will be highly disappointed when you hear someones car who only installed a aftermarket head unit and sounds and looks 2x better for under 1/2 the cost of a factory upgrade.

No carbon applique, I just wanted the armrest and the mirror and fiigured the package price probably worked out cheaper. I opted for the package without the carbon applique.

Upgraded Subaru audio? Like what? Pulling the whole thing out so you can get a "real" audio system?

There are never any labor charges associated with port-installed options. However, if the same options are installed by the dealer, instead of the port, the dealer is allowed to charge for the labor involved. In your case, make sure the dealer doesn't try to do that. Also, make sure all of the options are installed and listed on the paperwork before you sign. Subaru optional equipment installed on a new car before you buy are covered by the SOA 3yr/36k-miles bumper-to-bumper warranty. However, Subaru optional equipment installed on a car after you buy it are only covered by the SOA 1yr parts warranty.
