Default Installing the sti wing on my wrx

Hey guys I purchased an after market wing for my wrx it's the Sti wing and I'm hoping all the specs are the same. Is there any templates out there that I can use just so I know I'm putting the wing in the correct spot

Subaru hasn't made a template for the 2015+ or at least when I installed mine there wasn't. You will have to fabricate one or take it to a shop to get it professionally done. I usually do all my own work, but I wouldn't dare drill my own holes. Install for mine was about $200 at my local shop and they did an awesome job. I found a used OEM 2015 STi wing in my color for dummy cheap on eBay ($150) so everything was a steal considering how much they cost unpainted.

Trade trunks with someone for free and send your over priced wing back.

Doesn't look too bad with the Premium lip on there, I considered going this route but an STI owner got in touch with me about trading trunks so I think i'll go that route haha.

That's a great idea with the tooth paste!

Scary as hell, my friend and I did it. If you line it up everytime it works great. What we did was put toothpaste on all the long bolts first and set it down on the trunk. That lined up the longer bolts. We then drilled out those areas and saw it fits great, from there we put toothpaste on the smaller bolts little plastic things if I remember correctly that help hold it. We drilled holes with that and everything lined up. If you take off the top of your trunk liner you will actually see holes in the trunk little, little perfect circles. When we drilled we realized quickly that it pretty much lined up perfectly with those holes. If you feel you messed up just wipe off the toothpaste and try again until you are positive you get it right. With the toothpaste on you can also measure to make sure it is the same on each side to the center of the toothpaste.

I also know that you can take cardboard and cut it out to the exact dimensions of the trunk. From there you put the spoiler on top, cut the cardboard for the holes then tape the cardboard down on the trunk, then again from there you drill your holes. I forgot what size we ended up going up to, however not very large size. We did everything with the trunk still connected.

Just to give everybody a heads up after we put the spoiler on I took the trunk off and utilized the weatherstripping for the STi across the back of the trunk. I also used the stoppers from the STi, I do not remember the exact part number however it is in this forum under 2015 modifications, the dealer and SOA will also have that information for you because there was that big recall for paint chipping. I went to autozone and bought the weatherstripping glue, never had a problem with paint chipping or anything like that. With the new weather stripping you may have to "slam" the trunk the first few times however it will get better after that. The arms that you need to lift it are not needed with the spoiler on, you just need to lift the trunk whenever you want to open it. I do not have them and I have yet to have the trunk fall on me in 20000 miles.

It is raining pretty hard today and I do not have a garage because I live in an apartment complex (can't wait to move soon). So here are the pictures I have so far, when it stops raining and tomorrow I will take pictures of the inside of the trunk also so you can see everything.

Older one from the front:

Pictures I just took:

Based on the pics it looks great. I would have personally done a trunk swap to save the money, and knowing down the road I can just go ahead and coordinate another swap with someone else.

I actually kind of dig leaving the lip on there. If you do decide to remove it, if that lip is anything like the 2008+ lip, prepare for 14 holes to weld.

I like it. Reminds me of Higgins Rally America STi minus the canyards or however you spell it.

Bro love what you did to you car. I just today got my wing installed with my stock trunk and lip spoiler too. Question though does your wing push your lip spoiler. When I came back to the body shop after the installation the owner said this wasn't a problem but this gap is giving me such a headache. I think he installed it wrong and I gave him a hassle about it but he said whats done is done and charged me less then originally planned.
