Default A few noob questions(plz help)

So, Im currently looking to buy a suby and Im starting to learn some things. Here's the skinny...The car Im lookin at is an 02 RS with an EJ22T block and stock 2.5(SOHC) Top end and a Ludespeed stage 1 turbo kit running 5psi.
Now for the questions.
1. What kind of hp can be expected from this setup the way it is and does it sound durable.
2. What kind of upgrades are necessary to turn up the boost...forged internals, standalone comp, injectors???
3.Do the 2.0T and 2.5 use the same tranny or is the one in the WRX different. If so, which is better.

Any help is much appreciated.

1. First of all the EJ22T with the EJ25 SOHC heads @ 5 psi will probably not make more then about 170 hp. The EJ25 heads lower the compression on the EJ22T block to around 7.7: 1 so you will need to up the boost much more then 5 psi to make any any power. But if durablility is what you want, you will probably last 500,000 miles with that setup

2. People have put in 20+ psi into the EJ22T blocks. They are very sturdy. The block is safe for a little over 350 hp, but after that the rods are at risk of breaking. I hear of people running 10-12 psi on the EJ22T with just a RRFPR as managment and some injectors.

3. The bolt pattern on the tranny is a little different but I am told it fits fine.

If you only want 5 psi though, it would be much better for you to keep the EJ25 block. You will make about 200 awhp and have a lot more torque then a wrx.

No, Id like to up the boost to a maximum safe level. If 5psi is only putting out 170hp then thats definitely not enuff. If the setup is as strong as u say it is...minus the rods, etc. Would it be safe to say that with some fuel mods and forged rods & pistons sumthing closer to 20psi would be safe. Im prolly gonna have about 5K to spend off the bat to get there car to where I want(for awhile) so take that into consideration.

Before you even get close to 20 psi, you will need some standalone managment. Link ecus have been successful with the EJ22T setups. You could probably get away with 20 psi on the stock EJ22T block without needing to upgrade it. That will be around 320 hp at the crank.

Unless you already have an EJ22T block, a turbo setup and do the work yourself, 5K isnt going to do it.

ok, perhaps I didnt make myself clear enough. The car already has the EJ22T block and 2.5 heads. Already has the turbo kit at 5psi. Now, what do u think?

ah....now I see

Get yourself a FMIC and a stand alone engine setup, injectors, and a few other odds and ends.... possibly a bigger turbo (not sure if the stage 1 turbo will do it) and you can run 20 psi easy

If you get some good prices, you could do it all for 5K

and you WILL need a new clutch

It already has a BLITZ FMIC. I know I'll need a clutch, but what about the tranny itself. WIll the RS 5-speed hold up?

haha....damn...you already have a good setup

The stock tranny is not very good for the power you are thinking about making. If you baby it, the gears should last a while, but its not very reliable.

I broke 2nd gear making about 280 hp so if you have this money to invest in drivetrain parts, you should get something like STI RA gears. I have them and I think they are great.
