Default 4-pot calipers and larger rotors

I've read through the Suspension, Brakes, Rims & Tires forum and even used the venerable search feature, but I can't find any pontification on this topic so I'm creating a new thread in hopes of some input from the WRXperts.

I believe I read somewhere that the new JDM (MY02) WRX STi features 17"x7.5" gold BBS rims with four-pot brembo calipers for the front wheels and two-pots for the rear. The front rotors are something like 14.3" and the rear ones are 14.1"

I'm not certain on these figures but I believe that is what I've read, give or take.

One of the things I'd eventually like to do is upgrade the brake system on my Rex (should be buying it this week ... finally!). I plan on getting 17"x7.5" rims and had thought about mimicking the STi braking system by installing some four-pot calipers up front and larger rotors all around.

I haven't read about anyone else doing this so I was wondering why that was the case. Would the stopping power gained by four-pots and larger rotors be minimal? To me, it would seem to be a huge upgrade, but I'm not so sure anymore.

Also, what size rotors can 17" rims generally accomodate?

Anyone feel like putting in their $0.02???

Much obliged!
