i heard someplace in conn. tunes chips but i could never track them down. i think it was a dsm shop mostly...
gp moto does reflash them though, they did mine for like 50 bucks. its not a custom tune but it's something

TXS:
Stage 1 is stock
stage 2 is TBE
Stage 3 adds a up-pipe and TMIC
stage 4 adds STI injectors
all of these require the Unichip or UTEC.
even the TXS stage 1 was a slight change in performance over a true-stock car i believe.

Cobb has different stages,
not familiar with them off hand.
stage 2 i think is up-pipe and TBE, stage 4 is a VF30/34 turbo with STI injectors.. then with or without upgraded I/C.. dont quote me on this though.

stg 1 unichip was an axleback muffler and silencer removed. STG 2 turboback, STG 3 was intercooler and wasn't stg4 injectors and upgraded turbo?

Scott

ps i know turboxs tuned the chips on the car for certain mods as well. I have seen in my own eyes a stg2 + AEM cold air intake written righton the chip

the stage 2 chips (revision 2) have a "studder" that occurs at part throttle-partial boost(not full) with a medium load... like 3rd or 4th gear going up a hill at like 30-50% throttle..the car will hesitate, its how the chip was programmed, its not the car knocking and the ECU cutting timing or fuel, its just an annoying feeling..
i have a TXS stage 2.x with a Unichip..i get it all the time, researched it, and found theres a minor mod you can do to the chip to lessen the "problem".. but it doesnt get rid of it.. i think it just makes you need to be at a higher throttle postion before you feel it(has something to do with the fuel/timing program).. basically you wont ever feel this at 60% throttle because your rarely at 60, and 75 is considered WOT.

if anyone is local and wants to feel this "hesitation".. i'll gladly give them a ride in my car and show em.

just to make note of this.. i have a full catless TXS exhaust(now with STI muffler though), gutted stock up-pipe, and MBC with Stg 2 unichip programmed for 91 octane at 16.5 PSI.

im running 93 ocane(good old east coast gas is bettAr), 16 PSI... its NOT Knock.. i proved this is my running higher octane gas with less boost. it mostly happens at like 2-10 PSI..give it full throttle and it goes away. increase hte load on the car(more people, steeper hill or higher gear) and it gets worse.. not bad, but definatly annoying.. i've had many people ask what it was.
i'd like to find a place to re-tune the chip for an up-pipe and higher octane as well..but its unlikely that i'll find someone that can. though, its probly the same setup as a UTEC, with less parameters in each area. tappign into it may be the issue though

Murray i know the studder well, when i did the ground mod to the manifold it seemed to lessen the studder quite a bit. I bought a batty cable with two loop ends one to manifold other to the battery neg. Looks stock. I didnt bother with that nonsence connecting wires all over the engine bay. I found an add for turboxs(better by design) in NOV 02 of super street mag. STG 1 computer +30wheel HP plug and play 699$ 30 min install, stg 2 stainless DP center pipe hi flow cat and muffler 1699$ Thought that might be interesting.

i still hanvt done my grounding mod yet.. though i did hear it helps a bit on WRX's..couldnt tell much in my "RS" when i had it..
i got some black 8ga. wire laying around.. maybe i'll do a fire-wall and manifold-to-battery setup.. to keep the wires to a minimal.

if anyone finds a tuner for the chips..definatly post it up, theres tons of people who'd love to "upgrade" their old chip.

i've proven how effective they still are, my stg 2 Unichip'd wagon is faster than my freinds UTEC Stage 2 sedan... though he still has a 3rd cat.

Supposed to be a little pricier then others but, XXTuning works with the Unichip. They have a new location in Conneticut, saw something about them in the tristate vendors or the vendor classifieds announcements. Had some nice cars at the Evo vs STI shootout at Englishtown last year.
