Default NESIC Shooters

Well I don't know if this will stay here long or get moved to OT, but I'm trying to find out who in the area shares this interest.

So I have my father to thank...about a year ago (once the kids were out of the house) he got into guns, primarily handguns, pistols and revolvers alike. His interest then rubbed off on me, as we go to the range almost every time I go visit New Jersey where he lives. He started with 3 pistols, a Sig Sauer Mosquito .22, Smith & Wesson 686 .357 revolver, and a Smith & Wesson .45 ACP, but within the last few months, has become quite the avid collector with pieces like a blued Colt Python .357 unfired, a chrome Magnum Research Desert Eagle .44, among many others. My favorite of his, are his Taurus PT-1911 .45, and Magnum Research BFR .460.

I now have my paperwork in the works for pistol permits and the FID card in NJ. I also will be taking a Firearms Safety Course in Framingham this coming Monday, and upon receipt of my NJ permits, I will be applying for my out of state resident carry permit with the Mass State Police. I applied for 2 on the initial application, and I'm fairly sure my first purchase will be a 9mm Springfield XD(m). My second will probably be 1911 style, I'm still undecided on make and model though.

On another note, it seems I picked quite the time to get into sport shooting and guns in general, with prices skyrocketing, ammo flying off the shelf and the good stuff being crazy hard to find.

Does anyone in the NESIC area, well, the Boston area share this interest? Any good clubs/ranges in the area that I should know about and frequent?
Anyone else want to take this class on Monday (Memorial Day) night?
What kinds of guns do you have/use often for range shooting? and recommend?

Sig Sauer Mosquito .22

Smith & Wesson 4566 .45

Smith & Wesson 686 .357

Taurus PT-1911 .45

Magnum Research BFR .460

I know this is completely unrelated to Subarus, but seeing as there's no OT for NESIC, I didn't know what else to do with it.

I don't have my permit or any guns, but bump firing my friend's AR15 is a blast.

... partially because he owns it and can't do it right.

I'm not of any help for your questions, but it is good to know that class is only $100 because I was considering taking it some day. I have only shot guns once when I took this course called first shots which is free for anyone trying shooting for the first time. I would recommend it to others who are thinking of getting into shooting.

Are you sure? I read on the Smith and Wesson website you only have to be 18 to use their shooting range. Maybe it is different for different ranges.

haha he's actually in the bahamas right now.
But we've spent a pretty significant amount of time, over the past few months, at the range.
Pretty soon when he gets back we will probably head to the gun club in the Chelmsford area.
I'll be applying for a permit rather soon when steady income comes.

I have a 229 DAK with .40 and .357 Sig barrels, it's my favorite pistol. Look into the CPO if you can, great savings and the same warranty. If you havn't had the opportunity to try one out, if you want to head this way, I'd be happy to share.

This is my "punisher", a Ruger SP101 .357 Magnum. With 158gr Semi-Jacketed Soft Points, it's a wrist breaker. It's still pretty accurate. I had the grips fit to the gun, some of the prettiest wood grips I've seen yet too!

My old man has a Sig 229. I know he likes it, although I've only had the opportunity to shoot about 15 rounds through it before we ran out of ammo

This thing is unbelievable actually. The muzzle flash is about 18 inches long, and honestly, I'm about 5'8" and 155lbs, and literally had to put my right foot back to brace myself for the recoil. The .460 is the fastest round made. We shoot at an indoor range, and all the instructors ran into the range to see what the hell was going on The thing is CRAZY LOUD!

Sounds like my first batch of "hot" .357 handloads.

Sort of, but after you shoot this thing, they're not even comparable.
