Anyone planning on attending the HPDE, AutoX or Road Racing that NASA/PDA is doing up and Pocono next weekend?
Friday is 3 tracks simultaniously running while an Auto-x is taking place on the Main Straight of Pocono Raceway! Should be pretty wild. Saturday is the Double Infield and Sunday is the Single Infield Long Course. Saturday night is a free BBQ and Awards Ceremony and Camping is free all weekend long! I'll be there Fri-Sun, not taking the Subie though, so look for the Caddy CTS-V with NY Tags out at Timing and Scoring if you want a ride-along or if you are attending and need an instructor come find me as well. Registration is at https://www.pdadrivingschool.com/registration.php -mike

i was waiting to see you post this. I will be there Friday and Saturday. You got some new wheels, cool. That AX should be interesting on the front straight. I am going to have to try it out, never AX before.

My cousin is going on track Friday, and I'll be doing the autox. Look for a red FD RX7 with NT03s and a WRB Bug with gold RCT4s
![]() Do you know if you have to register for the autox? How does that work? |

i'm not sure how the autocross is going to work...this is the first time they have ever done that (unless they have done it years back). i'll be there.
we'll probably see your RX-7 and bug on track, but we will have to be manning the timing and scoring area, so pop on over and say hi when you get some free time in the pits. |

NASA at the turn 1 road course was my first HPDE, very good course for novices.

Do you have a map of the courses? I was there last year for a few days with BMWCCA doing the north course, curious how they will combine the tracks. It's cool that Pocono let's clubs get creative, CART uses all three tracks and the oval itself during one of their events.

the single infield uses the same infield as the north course, but the other part of the oval. and IIRC, the infield is run in the same direction. i think the double infield runs that infield in the opposite direction, and uses the south course (the turn 1 course mentioned above) infield in the same direction as the short track. and IMO, all the pocono courses make good novice tracks because you can easily see through many turns. there are not all of the elevation changes and blind turns that most courses have. i tend to feel more comfortable pushing to the limits of my car not having armco near the outside of every turn, too. i'm not saying that makes it better or worse than natural road courses for advanced drivers (they are experienced enough to decide that for themselves), but i certainly do recommend to friends giving it a try as one of the first tracks they run an HPDE at. |

The AX is free if you are signed up for the HPDE on Friday.
If you are coming for just the AX, the e-mail I got said it's $45. -mike |

Didn't see your caddy (edit). I showed up around lunch for one session on East course and the TT (which rained out unfortunately). Video should be up on hamfistracing.com shortly. The video shows me dropping the right rear in a rut just off track on my last lap. Then when I pull off you can see the billowing clouds from another suby (who shall remain nameless) after having seriously grenaded his/her EJ motor.

S1MPSONS,
you were in the blue STi, right. I was in the 08 white STi that was parked in the garage when you were watching the video of the self destructing STi. Your car was very quick out on track. |

Thanks subielife! Were you running blue? I recall a white STi 08-09 in my one session.

yeah, subielife runs in blue, which is usually where I run, too. i did one run on each track with blue in the afternoon, and got two sessions in each day on the long course. the caddy stays parked next to timing and scoring most of the time, which is out by north course. it was there, and it was out on track quite a few times (i got several rides in it). at the end of the day today, the advanced/instructor group ran the full oval. It was interesting for one session (i rode in the caddy for that too). A few vettes and one viper were breaking 160 at the end of the front straight...we had the radar gun out.

i couldn't tell you, but if you had a transponder on the car, paisan might know. i am not even sure what my times were, or we could guesstimate how fast you were, since we ran pretty tight for a few laps that one session.

Yeah I didn't have my TX in in the caddy
![]() According to growling_boxer, we hit 145 on the radar gun during that last session. The only sedan out there too! Not the car I'd bring to the track all the time, but it was fun for the big course. -mike |

Any idea of what happened to the EJ motor that blew up?
I was there Sunday driving a friend's S2000 powered Miata. Racelogic GPS based Performance Box recorded a Vmax of 133.64mph just before entering Turn 2. Never had driven at Pocono before. Cool track. Very safe with lots of run-off room. I did notice the Silver CTS-V. It was almost comical seeing how many point-bys it received Nice driving! Also the Supercharged Viper was absolutely amazing! Sooo much power, holy crap! |

I was out with the 07 STi when it blew but we had a half track gap between us. I was talking to him after and he didn't know what it was. He did have an intake and exhaust but I don't know if he had it tuned. It was alot of white smoke, I mean alot. Maybe a turbo seal let go?

Oh, I guess I remembered the color wrong. But that looks like the one I was talking about. I think it ran in the same group as the Red Supercharged Viper.
