So I just received and installed a 2.5" Magnaflow cbe on my '09 hatch. The exhaust is quite a nice piece, very light compared to stock. Install was pretty painless too.
Upon taking the first test drive everything was going well (it sounds great!) until I went into a moderate downshift from 3rd- 2nd, taking the engine to about 4200rpm. Out of nowhere was this rattling noise, very fast clanging together of metals bits. I thought right away that it was the heat shield hitting the mid-pipe so I got it back up on the ramps to have a look. I was a bit surprised after I physically shook the exhaust - quite hard - and it did not hit anything. The sound appears to be coming from the cat meets mid-pipe area. The heat shield is about .5 - .75" from the piping here. Should I just cut the heat shield out? It isn't loose so I am stumped.
Any ideas? - Has anyone else encountered this?
Thanks
