Hey guys, I'm pretty new to posting, been reading the threads here for awhile (mostly Subie News) but I've been blessed enough to get a promotion at my company as an accountant and will be looking into my first Subie (i'm tired of my FWD boring 2006 civic si). I'm having trouble deciding on what to get. Here's which ones i'm thinking:
06/07 STI 09 WRX Hatch 09 or 10 Legacy GT Here are the things i'm considering. I promised myself that this would be the car i keep until it dies. I do want to modify, but nothing ridiculous. My power goals are 350 whp, no more than that. All things being equal, given what the prices are for each, what do you guys think would be best? 1) Insurance? I know that getting a used STI or 09 WRX will save me money instead of getting a new Legacy GT, however will the long-run insurance costs make the difference worth it? I'm not really talking about a specific rate, since each person's ticket/accident history is different, but assuming all-things-equal. 2) I play electric guitar as a hobby and have quite a bit of equipment to lug around. I know for sure it'l all fit in either 3 cars using the trunk and backseat. 3) Since I'm wanting to keep this car until it dies, I'm assuming 10 yearsish? Do i want to be 36 driving a legacy GT that will still look decent or an STI? I guess this question only I can answer. But I think my question really targets more the higher cost of the new Legacy vs used WRX/STI and thinking the long run costs are going to make the WRX/STI actually more expensive over the long-haul. 4) I won't be tracking...ok i won't be tracking much. I get invited by my buddies to go out every once in awhile...so maybe i'll go on occasion...like once a year if that. Any and all opinions are welcome as I want to make the right decision that I'll commit to for the next 10+ years.

Hey, nothing wrong with being 36 and driving a modified Subie
Seriously though; which one works best for you is all up to you. We can all tell you what "we" think you should get...but in reality; go drive them all, do more research, then pick the one that you're most happy with considering all of your needs you've listed.I'm 36, drive a slightly modified 04 WRX wagon, but it's pretty much all power mods and looks basically stock on the outside...as I don't like to attract a lot of attention. |

Personally I would go with the 06/07 sti, 07 if you can find a good deal. They have been out for longer than the 09's and have proven reliability. As long as it fits the criteria and what you need it to do, I'd go for it. You really won't be disappointed. But then again, as Unabomber has said several times before, asking the members here will bring you so many varied results and opinions, and what it really comes down to is how you like them. I would test drive each, check the reliabilities for the newer models, make sure it meets all the things that you need it too and then you should be in at a good standpoint.

In terms of interior space, how much bigger did 2010's Legacy GT get from 2009? I might be able to save even more money by going for 2009's?
Any further thoughts? I think i've decided against the 2009 wrx. So it's between 2009, 2010 Legacy GT and possibly an older STI. |
