I'm the owner of a 2009 STi (~6k mi, Stage 1.5 P&L package - Intake, catted DP, AP V. 2 and a custom map), and having read all sorts of scary discussions about piston ringlands on the new STi's, seeing some very light blue smoke (tiny wispy trails on all 4 pipes, and what looks to be some liquid/deposit in the exhaust that evaporates?) after long periods of reversing or very low rpm driving (parking lots) has me a little worried. An example of when this happens would be when I reverse slowly for about 10-15 seconds.
I've been pretty gentle on the car, but I'm wondering if this sounds like the beginning of a ringland issue? I haven't noticed any real decline in performance (maybe a slight decline in gas mileage -I get ~20.5-21 mpg driving around 75 most of the time on country highways, but I chalked that up to the new map, which gets far better mileage around 60 mph than stock). Any reason why there might be a strong exhaust odor and this light smoke going in reverse in particular?
