Default First Day of Class = Getting hit and no police help... grrr

So today was my first day of classes and I'm now a junior . Parked on the same hill for the past 2 years and I come out today to see a Dodge Intrepid parked kind of close, upon getting closer I notice this Intrepid is ON my car... So it happened, I call State Farm and he says give the police a call, after being on hold with worthless Colorado Springs Police Department for 20 minutes I get a dispatcher with a HUGE attitude (I understand it's a high stress job, but if you can't take the heat get out of the kitchen).

Dispatcher: Is there damage to the car?

Me: Yes my bumper is literally pushed in a good 2", the cars are still touching

Dispatcher: *raised voice* SIR YOU NEED TO DETACH THE CARS AND TELL ME IF THERE IS DAMAGE

Me: *take pictures of them attached then "detach" them* Yes, it will need a new rear bumper cover

Dispatcher: An officer should arrive within the hour

So the officer comes and he's wayyyy coool. THANK GOD. He asks why the cars aren't still attached and then after a HUGE rigamaroll (sp?) City police wants to pull the kid out of class, campus police says it's against federal law, cop says "well it appears as if the damage is under 1000 so we can't do anything for you, your best bet is to just file a claim with your insurance company, unfortunately you'll have to pay the deductable and your insurance will go up slightly."

So what the F... I'm stuck with a busted car, not to mention this Intrepid was parked illegally (wayy too close to stop sign).

I call my insurance and he says hopefully the guy calls you back tonight and admits that he is at fault, if not we will file a "hit and run" tomorrow.

~~ That's my first day of classes for Fall semester, how was your day?

CALLED Body Shop and got a very very rough estimate of $700

BTW I had something very similar happen to me. I had a guy make some crazy wide 4 lane turn in front of me, causing me to hit him (it sounds like my fault, but you had to be there). I felt he was at fault, he felt he was, and so did a witness. Cop came and since the damage was less than $1000 he told us our insurance had to handle it. I got home and called my insurance and they said they wouldnt' file a claim without a police report. I told them the story and even said he admitted fault and I had a witness. My own insurance was like "we don't want to file a claim cause his insurance could come back and try to say it was your fault.

Nothing is more screwed up than someone hitting YOUR car and YOU paying for it.

sorry to hear. similar story. guy who parked next to me last year was way cool and always gave me extra space on my side to get in/out since the space to his left was empty. new semester and the guy leaves, having this grand prix take his spot and guy parks it butt close to me (spot to his left still empty). i'm scared to death the guy is going to pull out one day and scrape my rear quarter/bumper

Here's a picture, the right side of the plate tub is destroyed beyond the point of repairing it since it is a 250$ bumper

Thank people with crappy cars or have no care what so ever if anything happens to their own car or others, once they crash!

That really sucks; i hope this doesn't happen to me this year in first year of college.

^^ flippin' undergrads. why'd you all have to come back?

i hate the traffic caused by people walking back and forth from class and driving down campus streets just to see and be seen. yesterday i was having a pitcher at the local pub and saw this black 'stang gt (made to look like a gt500) that strolled by at least 5 times!

also saw a saabaru which i got excited about and freaked my buddy out.
