Default Basic Tires

Hi All, I just bought a '00 Impreza Outback Sport with 30K. Still has the original Bridgestone Potenza's that came with the car. Looking for suggestions on new tires for basic driving. I drive a delivery route mostly city stop & go, about 110 miles per day. Live in Omaha so we do have snow & ice but not looking for winter & summer sets, just one. Finally don't have alot of money...don't want to spend $150 per tire. I don't race and don't drive the car hard, just looking for some good basic tires. Should I go with another set of Bridgestones? I also heard the Goodrich TA's are decent. Would appreciate your thoughts.
Thanks,
Mark

My opinion is that you should look in the the wheels and tires thread for ideas. Or just go on tire rack and put your car in and look for cheap all-season tires.

Yeah check TireRack for standard or touring all-season tires or go to to your local tire shop. Shouldn't have a problem getting a decent set for $60-75 per tire. Absolutley no reason to spend more than that to get a decent standard all season tire that will last IMO.

Edit: maybe some of these

I'm very happy with my potenza g019 Grids:

I do have dedicated winters but these tires are more than capable in rain, snow and mud

I'm getting ready to buy a 2nd set of these for a family car that's driven a lot year round. I've been happy with them.

I'm in the same boat as the OP - don't drive fast or aggressively, and in the winter I use dedicated rubber (well at least I did up in New England - ATL doesn't have winter lol).

I've never had any problems with the stock RE-92s. What I like to do for keeping my tire cost low is take advantage of the large amount of stock rubber that those of us on this forum practically throw away when they upgrade to proper aggressive driving tires. Since they usually upgrade the wheels too, you can quite easily find a set of tires already mounted on wheels with low miles for under $300-400. I've paid as low as $200 on a couple sets. Much easier to install (driveway), saves money, saves tires from the landfill, and keeps the local community economy going. Wins in all directions!

I also agree that the RE-92's used as take-offs would be perfect. Enthusiasts very often sell these for next to nothing. I actually bought a set of wheels with RE-92's for $400 total.......which is what I'd expect to pay for just tires but people feel like the tires are worth zero if they say RE-92 on them. I use them sometimes on the street when there's no chance of snow. Separate snows and separate track setups as well.

OP: Where do you live? Snow, rain, heat and cold make a huge difference.

Default Tires

Thanks for the response. I live in Omaha, NE so we do have a good amount of snow. I am leaning toward the Potenza 960AS PP. What do you think?
Thanks,
Mark

^^^^^ I'm leaning towards the re960 as pp also, seem a little pricy though, $150 for 225/50-16 but they look like they have a lot of rubber in them

I'm on Continental ContiExtremeContacts. They were $80/each base from Tirerack and scored very well. It's a fairly popular tire here. They work pretty well for me.
