I would love to travel like that. Really make life beyond worth it. While one old ass man looks back on his crap life filled with stress and work and responsibility, this dude will get to look back on his one year adventure of seeing sites that remained with him for a lifetime.

Not too much. I own a house so I'd have to rent it out to pay the mortgage, I have two pets that'd need homes for the time I'm gone, I'd need to deal with bills and whatnot I pay monthly that I couldn't stop.

Takes planning for sure, but technically nothing is holding me back. Well...I take that back. I am the POA for my grandma who had a horrible stroke and can't take care of herself. I pay her bills, and deal with her taxes. So yeah, just planning.

The whole renting my house out thing, however, seems sketchy.

This.

Hell, sooooo many people waste their lives away at work M-F. Then do the same stuff on the weekends (chores, errands, drinking) before doing it all over again come Monday. Yeah, vacations are a great chance to get out and see the world for a change...but being tied down to the same routine, to too many responsibilities, to the daily ins and outs of society can be so draining. We only get to live once, we may as well make each moment count.

I'd imagine leaving "reality" for a year isn't cheap though. I for one wouldn't want to sleep in parks. Dude in the video probably brought his daddy's Visa card with him.

If I could do it, I'd travel to all the mainland States by van. See small towns, see the sites, national parks, meet people. It'd be amazing.
