And it's a '94 sedan, new clutch. Mileage is around 180k miles, and they're asking $1500 when the KBB is about $1100.
What's your take on it? I've actually never driven a Subaru before but heard they are very reliable.

Just because it's Japanese, it doesn't mean it's reliable.

When did I say that? I'm just curious to know how long Subaru's last, for the most part, with this one being of higher mileage.

You joined just to post that?
Any car with 180,000 miles will have issues. It's an old car and they need TLC. I don't rightly think a Subaru is any more or less reliable at that point than any other car. |

I loved my 96L. What motor does it have and what transmission? If your looking for a beater car. I say go for it. I got my old L around that mileage. Put it through hell for the next 30k-40k miles. Took it the drag strip. Always mudding in it (got stuck real bad), tore up back gravel roads and it kept coming back for more. When i finally got rid of it, i thought it was on it's last leg. It had a real bad Head Gasket leak and a cylinder 3 misfire. Guy came down from canada. Put the coolant additive in it. Then drove it from indiana to somewhere in canada. I believe it is still running to this day.
I say go for it. |

Generally speaking the older Impreza will run forever. We have a 93 with 180k and it's been holding up fine. For $1500 it should be rust free and not need any work.

I didn't come here JUST to post this. I'll stick around. I can't make my topic a question regarding my next car?
By the way it has a 1.8L and is, of course, stick. |

lol, true, but a simple look at any consumer reports and you'll see that subaru is among the highest rated manufactures across the board. This is partially what lead me into purchasing a Subaru for myself. That and the nice availability of power as well.

well i recently bought my 94 l (wagon though, not sedan) and I needed to replace the cv halfshafts. It had been without boots for a while. Other than that, I have no problems, and can't imagine theres much to go wrong with them.
Only problem is wishing the 1.8 was something bigger... for $1500, this is AWD, right? If it's in good shape then it doesn't sound too bad a deal. |

FWD, actually. The wagon normally has AWD. I was going to get a '95 Legacy but turned out it was already sold.

Well, the $1500 seems a bit much for fwd (mine is fwd as well, but I have the crazy 4eat), but the stick is nice.
I paid $450 for mine, but i had to drop ~300 or so on parts to get it reliable. If it's in good shape, then its not a bad deal. |

$450? Really? And in good condition?
Well BB value is about $1000. I'll try to talk it down. |

The people were dumping it (got a free cobalt), so I wouldn't consider my case as a baseline. And good condition might be...generous. I've got an awesome dent in the passenger fender that looks like Teddy Roosevelt though.
It really all depends on the condition, much as I hate to keep repeating myself... |

Alright i've had enough with the gay posts that give you no info. 1. That car will probably run fine, the N/A impreza's will run forever. The only real problems they have is the headgaskets tend to need replacing. 2. The price is about right.... kinda..... it reall depends on how much rust that baby has. If the body is cherry, then I would pay that in a heartbeat, but this is something YOU REALLY NEED TO LOOK INTO. RUST WILL KILL YOU. 3. Your problem: It's FWD. It's won't drive like an AWD impreza, and honestly thats 90% of the fun. I'd try to find a AWD impreza, they are out there and not to expensive. This will give you a GREAT building block for later mods, and if you want to keep it stock, it will be fun. Trust me. YES, you can convert it, but it's a pain. Why join a marathon with only 1 leg? If you are on the edge about buying it, i wouldn't. However if you just need something to get you from point A to point B, get a toyota. 2cents. |

The 1.8 and 2.2 almost never have bad head gaskets. I'll agree pass on the rust and FWD, it's not worth buying with either. |

Thank you for being to the point about that.
So Subaru's are all about the AWD? They do run great on various roads after all.. It's not that I only need something to get from point A to point B, but I want something faster (right now I have a '91 Nissan Sentra, auto..). Saw this '94 Nissan Altima GXE with about 120k, which I'm rather fine with. If I just maintain it and all. And I was always told that Toyotas, Hondas, and Nissans were the most reliable (in one's opinion), but Subarus seem to be on the chart somewhere. All depends on the vehicles condition. |
